5D M3 Audio Reviews Anyone?

Hi. I know most are concerned with the video comparisons to other models, but has anyone done any audio tests yet? I'm curious if using an external audio recorder can now be considered an option instead of a requirement. thanks in advance.

So far, from the users reports, people have been impressed with the on board audio of the 5DIII. I'm planning on just adding a Juiced Link and calling it good.

I plugged my G3 directly into the 5Dm3 but I didn't get a great result, a lot of background noise probably due to the preamp. Not nice at all, not really usable ( imagine that you are doing an interview in an office with a very bad AC sound in the back... That kind of thing). That said the silent tactile wheel is really cool and works pretty well and controlling your levels is easy...

I tested the G3 and got good results by setting the output gain higher on the receiver so that I could set the 5D3 to a manual level of +1 (1 click above zero), while hitting -12dB during speech.

Awesome, thanks for that jcs!

I'll give it a try very soon and post my feedback here.

You can also probably use the silent volume control on the 5D3 during recording as long as you keep the max gain down near +1 (or via testing make a note when noise gets too high and let that be your max volume limit).

On this subject, if I were to invest in a preamp type module for 5D mk III sound recording, any idea which would be best suited to this purpose? Biggest need for me is to have multiple XLRs before going into the Canon. If it could be small enough to mount on a rig it'd be even better.

I know the Juicedlink fits into the criteria but I don't see it as particularly well reviewed on sites that sell it. Does it make sense to wait until companies have had a chance to build new products around the new monitoring features of the MK III and D800?

Thanks in advance!
