5D image too dark while watching back on macbook pro

Hello everyone !

I've been shooting images with a 5D Mark II (in Neutral mode, -4, -4, -2,0) and when I watch back the images on my new macbook pro retina the images look much darker (and saturated) both in quicktime, vlc and fcp. Is it a problem in osx10.8 ? I never had this probem on my macbook pro from 2008 with osx10.5 The original H264 clips already looks much darker than they look when I shot them.

What should I do to display the images in a correct way on this macbook pro ?

Best regards,

Charles van Florop

Is your computer screen calibrated? It should be if it's not.

Is the LCD on your camera set to auto brightness? Set it to "manual" if it is.

Sounds to me like the gamma shift from MOV files. Don't worry, the information is there, just make sure your final results after grading look good to you.

Dear Chris,

The computer screen indeed has been calibrated and the LCD on my camera is set to manual. Is there a way to display the images on a correct way on a mac ?

Are you using the newer QT 10 player? Try QT 7 instead and see if there's a difference. I only use QT 7 and I don't see any dramatic difference as you describe.

Also, try other media players like VLC.
