Hi guys,
Im am looking for some info about the 5d. I worked on a shoot recently and now that the footage has been brought into fcp the director is asking where some shots are. Now I didn't shoot this so I don't know if any mistakes were made Im just covering all options. I believe the op buttoned off when he thought he was buttoning on. Anyway...

Can some one tell me the longest duration the 5D can record for in one take? (ie 1 Clip)
Does the 5D over heat and stop working or shut down? (heard that it did but not from a reliable source)
Does the 5D ever split clips up like p2 or ex does when spanning cards? (I understand that the 5D has only one card slot)

Is there a reason fcp would only import part of a clip from the 5D files?

Is there any other reason any one can think of why part of a clip would be missing?

The 5D cf cards were backed up to two locations using shot put pro and there were no errors or failures when backing up. All transfers were logged and with out a fault.
There are 4 clips where the sound guy has much longer recordings than the clips coming off the 5D one of the clips is only 3 sec long.

Any help or ideas on what you think could have happened is greatly appreciated :)
 
I think your gut feeling is correct about the operator error.

5D clip max size is 4GB, which is approx 12 minutes.

While I don't have any personal experience with the 5D overheating, I have a 7D which did overheat. You get a thermometer icon flashing in the LCD which is farily prominent and noticeable. (In other words, operator should have noticed this) When this happened, I would immediately playback the clip and check for errors.

The 5d should not span clips as you mentioned there is only one card slot with the camera.

Sounds to me like operator error. Lastly, I'm assuming the clips are being transcoded to a more friendly editing codec like ProRes 422, did you check that all the clips were properly transcoded?
 
Could be operator error. Also if the FCP EOS plugin was used, that could also be the culprit. There were some issues with partial imports using the FCP plugin. I'd double check the actual clips.
