5D footage 1080p 30fps - slow motion has interlaced frames. confused!

hi

I shot with 5D Mark ii and 1080p 30fps. And am not expecting a super damn slow motion and i know with 30fps i can't achieve that. I just slowed it down to 80, 75, 70% and it's really disappointing that even motion optical flow creates awful interlacing effect on my video. Is there anything that i need to deselect or select to keep it progressive? Attached the screenshot in this URL. not sure how i can upload it here... so posted it in my ftp.

workflow: i did transcoded the h264 to apple prores hq1080p and my timeline matches the same settings too.

any input would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

update::shocked: even though i have used it in couple of the places i wasn't happy. plus, now i wanted to sync my audio and video for non drop and drop frame settings. so wanted to see what's my sequence summary, and while i was looking for that, under sequence menu when i noticed the settings, this is what i found :(

please see this link: http://ihariharan.com/seqset1.png

i have NO IDEA how it has chosed the hdv1080i whereas my sequence preset you can see something different. now i have changed it to custom 16:9 and completely re rendered it. and then again it went back to the same hdv1080i. And i dont' see the 1080p in the dropdown either. please see this link: http://ihariharan.com/seqset2.png

now what's the work around? my video is shot in 1080p 30fps. and converted it to apple prores hq and few footage LT. now am really confused. please help. thanks a lot!

Hello
Firstly those links don't work but any way what are you editing in?
Optical flow is cool but it does have to make frames up, here are a couple of shooting tips for better results
Shoot at fast shutter speed to avoid any motion blur
Keep everything sharp no short depth of field

hi,
thank you for your kind reply. actually i have moved those images into one folder for future reference. it's under http://ihariharan.com/fcpslowmotion/ and you can click on all the images listed there as hyperlink.

i have actually figured out. the problem was the filed dominance was set to upper odd that was the culprit. still it's not super slow motion but it's not interlaced anymore. is there any best method out there for slow motion on 30fps? i just ordered gopro only for slow motion purpose. but no manual mode, and complete wide angle is a little turn off in that camera. but i don't want to spend another few hundred dollars which can shoot 60fps.

Your "seqset1.png" shows the correct settings. You can right click on the clips in the browser and change the field dom.
Then drag a clip into a new sequence in FCP and let it match the settings. Confirm none on the fields for the sequence. Shoot 60fps for slo-mo in the future. AE time remapping works well too even on 30fps.

actually i had it resolved. first i selected all my timeline clips and changed the filed dom to none. but it did not apply for some reason. infact before i tried that it throwed me a warning of multiple clip selection. and then i individually selected the clip and went to item properties, format and changed the feild dom to none.

now i got a question.
1. my seq settings is 30fps. but in the timeline footage shows 29.97. my transcoded footage was 30fps too. i don't know how it turned to be 29,97. i think somewhere in the settings probably i chosed drop the frames. but i wonder how it drop since all my settings were 30fps. anyways, my question is, if i export this video to 24fps what will happen? will i get my audio paced down a bit and time gets longer?

2. and what should be usually the music video credit? i am thinking of putting my name while the song is going on as musician credits & "film & edit: hariharan". is that not good?

3. i have been hearing AE does better job in the time mapping. am just getting my hands on with final cut little better. but badly wants to learn AE as well. but don't know where to begin.

Your sequence is correct @ 29.97 - that is the NTSC stream it is in. Don't worry about that. That is normal. It's progressive.
Now, if you want 24p, you should shoot 24p.
You can use frame rate conversion software like Magic Bullet, Twixtor or ReelVision to create 23.976 footage from 30p

okay got it. thanks! any idea about AE cs5? is it better than fcp? i do have very good knowledge in adobe photoshop cs5. i can see ae also works on layers. for some reason the work area(layout) seems little complicated. hope it's not.

For time-remapping yes. Also, AE is better to convert footage to 24p but not better then the other softwares.
