5d + DVX100 for audio - help needed

I will be using my DVX100a to phantom power a pro gun mic and then want to feed back the audio to 5d.

Should I use the phone out from the DVX100 or the line out (and thus be able to use headphones to monitor)?

Is any of these option very wrong that could result in damaging the 5d ?

**Also - what about the setting in 5d? I guess manual but should it be very low?**

Was planning to get the H4n but budget does not allow. Leaving in 2 days for a doc shooting.

Many thanks for your help.

I'd stick with the line out and disable the auto gain control on the 5d. Also, what about just recording to a DV tape on the DVX100, and synching in post with a tool such as Pluraleyes? All you really would need is a clapboard. that way your not dealing with flimsy 1/8" jacks that can easily break or come disconnected if you do something as simple as stare at them wrong!

Just my $0.02
