5D cut with 60D footage

I've been shooting with a 60D while waiting for the new 5D to be launched. I have shot with the 5D mkII which is great, but the 60D has done the job so far on a lot of paying projects. I'm debating if I should to hang on to the 60D or sell it with the Tamron 17-50 2.8 while it can still get a good return and add the cash to the upgrade. I do have a good collection of prime lenses for the 5D. Is anyone cutting 5D footage with APS-c shots. I know I'm speculating, and it depends on the features in the new 5D, but it should be out by the end of the year.

Yes - double camera interview footage just the other day. Same picture profiles, kelvins etc. Seems to cut just fine, imho

Well, apart from the fact that your FoV and perceived depth is different in the nature of an extremely large size sensor, the Resolved resolution is a bit higher (closer to 1080p, although still not there). To my eyes there's quite a significant difference, but not to 99.9% of everyone elses... So yeah, as long as you know what you're doing cinematography vise, don't worry about it. Fact is though that people confuse things and assume the resolution is eq. because all of the Canons got aliasing, but is algorithms downsampling from 5D's sensor compared to say 550D is obviously very different.

Michael,

These vids I did recently are done with 5D and and aps-c (7D),
under "normal" circumstances the footage look similar,
I do seem to notice the 5D to be a tad sharper, and of course, the low light is better on 5D.

But heck, the average viewer won't know and care, its just us that know the benefits of each system.

I just got the mosaic filter too Michael, I'm doing my tests now, I think it will "prolong" the usable life of the 5D for a couple more years.

The small sensor seems to get the job done and I have been shooting paying projects now for a year and a half with them. I only got a request for a 5D from a client once and borrowed a 5D. It completely replaced my need to rent an EX3. I guess i want a 5D way more than need one. Be nice to see what the next release has to offer. All these cameras are great and to be honest I have had almost zero issues with aliasing. I know it can crop up but when you know what to avoid it's easy to avoid specially with shallow DOF. It's all good. The best gear to happen since I got into the industry.
