Hey,
I'm no tech guy, so maybe those who understand these things can weigh in please, but I feel the 5d's relationship with the colour red is weird.
Initially I thought that, like a lot of these digital cameras, the 5d was a bit too sensitive to red, easily fixed in post by just removing it a touch.
But I'm seeing some differences from shot to shot, where the lighting was consistent, as I move to an image with more or less of the frame filled with red objects.
For example I'm looking at a closeup and the camera was on a slider so move from where the actor was on the left to move in the middle as the shot goes on.
Behind him there was a red lametta (foil) curtain, all shiny and the like. When he's on the left and the red curtain takes up a good amount of space, the red hue is more apparent than when he is in the middle, and so there is less of the red curtain in shot.
I thought that these cameras, although seeing red a bit wonky, at least saw it consistently, but I'm having to add a bit more red colour removal on those shots when he is to the left aka those with a bit more of a red hue.
Can anyone explain this and what one should do about it etc?
Thankfully I have Mathias's TMTS FCP plug in that has a great colour balancer I can just remove -5 red or whatever to make things consistent, but still.
