54000 RPM Fast enough for HDV?

I'm getting me a new external hard drive since I'm upgrading to HDV (Yes I know late to the party by a decade) I was wondering if a 54000 RPM hard drive is fast enough or if I should go for either a 72000 RPM or a RAID, what do you guys recommend?

I recommend either 2 platter 7200 or 3 platter 5400 drives and a fast enough interface to em, like firewire, sata or sas. But HDV by design is 25Mbps so even a slow drive can handle it's playback in raw form, recording and encoding (capture) is another issue though, where dirve over-heat, thermal recalibration and overall buffering can create drop-outs.

But the main tax you pay with HDV is CPU, while most convert it to some "other" format during capture that is easier on the CPU and heavier on the storage.
(I'd throw this into post-production section next time.)

i would say, for playback HDV, it's fine. For editing, you will always want to get a faster hard drive. i would say at least 7200rpm.
