50p to 25p convert

hi all,

shot a film on the weekend with the P2 and mini35. My first experience with 35mm adaptors and I am converted.

DOP has shot everything at 50p though instead of 25p.... Is there something I should do to convert this?

I know he meant to shoot at 25p but the old 'HVX defaults to user settings 1' when turned on caught us off guard.

It's only the 2nd time I've managed to use a P2 for a shoot so I just plain forgot.

Am I stuck with 50p footage or can I do some kind of cheeky conversion to 25p

thanks

The frame rate is set in the Recording Setup menu, and that doesn't revert to anything when you turn it off and back on. It stays the way you had it set. The scene file will revert if you don't save it, but you don't select the base frame rate there. Variable frame rate, yes, but not the base frame rate.

(Or was this shot as a 50p overcrank so all your footage is 50% speed?)

Which NLE are you using? You may be able to convert with that by exporting the footage as 25p. Or, you may be able to do it in After Effects, or with DVFilm Maker or Magic Bullet.

I dunno. You know how you can go in and choose film or video? and film setting is 50p or something. I am using FCP.

It's not 25P N - you know that setting where you choose the frame rate?

anyway. Looks like one of my P2 cards didn't record the middle of my film so I have to shoot again in after my next payday.

Sigh.

There are two places to set the "frame rate" -- in the Recording Setup menu, where you'd choose the base frame rate, and in the scene file, where you'd choose the variable frame rate. The scene file is where you choose between film cam and video cam modes.

Changing the frame rate in the scene file is how you set overcrank or undercrank. It doesn't affect the base frame rate of the footage. If you're in 25p mode and you set the frame rate in the scene file to 50, it'll be recorded at 25 fps but appear to be moving at half speed.
