50i into 24p problems

I make a documentary and have to put 50i(pal) into 720 24p timeline and that gives ugly striped pictures.
What to do?

You're trying to force interlaced footage into a progressive project. While this is generally not the best idea, you can de-interlace the footage.

Plus, was the 50i shot in HD? What is the source format?

PAL 720x576
but i see that the original footage in 50i is not good in the first place, I need to see to get the oncompressed original. I'll try that first and then I come back if it doesn't work, thanks

You can delace the footage to 25p and then drop it in as 24p. It will play 4% slower and you might have to adjust the sound by 4% to match it, but it is a quick fix.

You can delace by using your NLE with a 50i project and exporting from there after delacing or use a program like DVFilm Maker to delace.

Best,
Andy

De-interlace will fix the jaggies, but a 4% reduction in speed is pretty considerable. Why not use Cinema Tools to do the conversion?

thanks guys but I see that in the original is jaggering viewable and that not good so first need the first clip.

The 25p will play 4% slower since it will be 25fps playing at 24fps, but won't have any motion issues. If you want the 25p to play at real time you will have to convert it to 24p which you can do with Cinema Tools or the NLE.

Best,
Andy
