500gb OTG for 500 Euro!

Here is a quote straight from the site that you listed regarding the Rhapsody device.

"Rapsody is an essential accessory for your outdoor digital photo life because it supports USB OTG function. Now copy all of your digital records from your trip.
* To use OTG function, your HDD has to be partitioned by FAT32.
* For devices which requires 250mA of power supply, external power adapter is needed."

You can format the hard drive to its full size using a small utility called Swissknife.

That is great. I know Barry Green used this tool to format his Magic Boxx OTG USB drive back in early january. The only unknowns now are:

Can the MAC read a FAT32 partition bigger than 130gb?
Is there a size limitation by FAT32 itself? Can an entire 500GB drive be one fat32 partition?

If you had to break up a 500gb drive into smaller partitions can a USB OTG drive access multiple partitions? In other words can it jump from one partition to the next when the first one fills up?

Guys,

I bought a 250GB WD hd and formated it on the HVX through FW. Now that I am done with it, I cant get it to reformat higher than 128GB on my mac. Disk utility will allow me to erase and partition, but I cant seem to do a reformat to get it back to 250GB.

I have tried formating it internally on my G5, external through FW case, and usb external on win XP.

I would love to know how to get it to low level format, any clues?

bena,
After using Swiss Knife to format 250gb Fata32, can you verify that the Mac reads it properly? I thought I read somewhere where the mac can't read higher than a 130gb drive in FAT32. Hope this is incorrect.

Thank!

the problem is... The mac would not do a low level format.. and see's the drive as 128GB as a hardware limit.

I tried formating back and forth between fat and HFS+ and it would not reclaim the full space.

Gonna try formating it on the pc and see if that fixes it.

i ended up returning the HD, I think it had a problem.
Good Idea bena - when it comes to HDD's its better to err on the side of caution.

Oh and my thoughts on this Rapsody device- Your spending a great deal of the money on its ability to play media- and decode DTS- AND while 3.5 inch drives offer higher capacity, they are not anywhere near as rugged as 2.5 inch drives.
So for HVX aquisition. I say stick with the MagicBox http://www.acortech.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/3236/ME-600 Black OTG 2.5" USB 2.0 External Enclosure

Although i have been curious about this little thing- http://www.macmall.com/macmall/shop...campaign=email,mwbfroogle&wt.mc_id=mwbfroogle its so small and would mount to a HVX nicely, and has a very nice backlit blue screen
