TIi is the US name for what everyone else calls the 500D
Personally, if you can afford the difference then go for the 5DII
And if you can't afford it, save up or sell something (Your girl-children? jk)

That's how I got mine. Thank god for the sex slave trade in America, or I would have never got my 5DII. Still hear from the wife occassionally. .... ;-)

I've used both and I ended up buying the T1i as I just cant quite afford the 5D yet.
The lowlight on the T1i is great but not as good as the 5D. The 5D footage at 1600 iso looks great where on the T1i it looks quite grainy. 800 ISO is the highest I recommend on the T1i.
And the other big difference is the sensor size. I really want a full frame but the T1i crop factor isnt so bad (1.5x).
If Canon releases an update for the T1i like they are for the 5D, then the T1i would be a mindblowing sub-$1000 camera.
Also the jello is WAY better than the nikon D90.
