5000 watts of light for $90.00!!! Stop buying work lights!

Something else to think about when constructing lights like this, is the available power.

For example, most folks don't have 15,000 watts handy to power a light like this. :)

That is a major consideration for any lighting and is one of the main limitations for low budget set ups. The 4 light configuration of the 500 watt bulbs draws 16 amps and I wouldn't use one on anything but a 20 watt circuit. One of the first things I do at a location is figure out how it is powered and where are all of the 20 amp circuits.

That's my boat... even if I could afford to by a set of 'over 1500W' lights... how could I power them reasonably...

So these DIY type lights are 1) with in my 'budget' of 'free time to assemble' + cost of materials... 2) in my power budget relative to what I find as 'available power'... along with 'available light'.

The 'work lights' always appear to have very 'spindly' stands... as well as being extremely 'hot'. (Ok, best practice to use gloves that are designed for 'hot work'... but it seems that halogens are just begging for something to burn...

Then again... that 'free time' just doesn't seem to materialize all that often...
