Panasonic just announced a $500 rebate for the AG-HPX170.
Requirements are that you register the camera online for the 5 year extended warranty and submit paper claim for $500. Rebate is effective from July 1 to September 30 2009.
We have the AG-HPX170 in stock ready to ship.
Our AG-HPX170 page has a link to the rebate form.

Yes, the 5 year warranty is free.

All you have to do is complete the online Panasonic registration to extend the warranty from 1 year to 5 years.

Hi
is the rebate only in america? I will buy the HPX171 in the next days in germany. If I register it online can I get a rebate too?

Thanks

This rebate is only on the HPX170, only for USA customers.

You would have to check with your own division of Panasonic, Panasonic Europe, to see if they were offering any rebates on the HPX171.

Let me see if I understand a few things:

• The 5 year warranty was available for the HPX170 even prior to the recently announced rebate... right?

• Prior to the rebate, the HPX170 was shipping with a 16GB P2-R card. Now, it ships with the same capacity P2-E card... right?

If so, the net result is a $500 rebate for a camera that is now substituting a "cheaper" P2 card.

Extrapolated further...

Recent 16GB P2-R card offered: $899.95
Current 16GB P2-E card offered: $409.95

Difference between the two P2 cards: $490
Actual retail savings to customer and/or difference in value of rebate offer: $10

True - somewhat, Terry.

Thing is, the E series and R series card is going to have roughly the same level of value to the actual customer - personally I prefer my 32gb E series cards to the 16 R series that came with my 170... and I didn't get a $500 rebate. I would have rather gotten $500 off and an E series card, actually (of course they didn't exist when I got my cam).

Makes perfect sense that they would offer a rebate worth the difference in the price of the card.... if they didn't then people would cry foul because they're charging the same.
:)

EDITED TO ADD:
And by the way, Spec Comm is fantastic.
I'd urge anyone thinking about ordering a 170 to take a close look at them.
Got my last two cams there and their customer service has been awesome.

I'm still waiting for my 5 year warranty certificate so I can submit my rebate claim. I don't know how long it takes to process the warranty, but I think it wouldn't take this long. I hope that panasonic is not stalling so that I can't get the rebate claim in on time.

Yes, I am still waiting too... registered on Aug. 1st, and no certificate yet...

If I bought my HPX170 on June 30th, can I still apply for the rebate? Or do you have to PURCHASE the camera from July 1 to September 30th?

Also, what it this certificate you guys are talking about? I filled out the warranty and mailed it in, what else do I need to do to get this rebate?

Does anyone know of a phone number to call to find the status on the warranty certificate? I am going on three weeks, and nothing and no responses to my email inquiries. I registered a few days after I received the camera, and I don't want to lose the window on the rebate. That was the reason I pulled the trigger now. Is anyone else having issues getting this certificate in a timely manner?

I guess after you register, you are supposed to get a certificate via email. This is needed for the $500 rebate.

OK, I received the certificate today... time to file the rebate...plenty of time for Christmas shopping...
