FS7: 5 reasons the URSA Mini is better than the Sony FS7

Ursa Mini Pro is enroute to dealers per Blackmagic. I should be getting one for review next week or the week after.

I don't own one. BUT- The 4.6K has a very nice image. The form factor is a big improvement over FS7 and C300M2- if like me, you like to use Anton Bauer bricks. Now has interchangeable lens mounts and a host of solid features. a lot of bugs have been worked out. The price is amazing.
For a neutral opinion read Geoff Boyle's comments as some think John Brawley is on BM's payroll- he says he isn't and i believe him.

The fact that BM fixed a host of problems and quietly and very quickly released a major hardware revision- that's pretty impressive, as is the price.

The UM Pro does not have high frame rates like the FS7
The UM Pro does not have a usable and functional autofocus system like the C300M2
The UM Pro does not have the low light abilities of either camera.
The UM Pro is almost 1/2 the price.
It's another option that has a very nice picture as most current cameras have.

So is the FPN fixed? Or does it still exist?

I think the BM has a very nice image / color science. I think the new version makes it a versatile Cinema camera. I think for RnG, the FS7 with better low light, Speed Booster, FS7 is bullet proof, considerable less weight and High Frame Rates still makes it more versatile. But this is a big improvement for BM and makes it a great camera.
 
Would that still be the case here though? I mean the "Pro" version essentially just adds knobs and internal NDs (for the most part) so wouldn't some of the other progress they've made on the 4K and 4.6k Mini up to this point help?
 
I had the pocket and LOVED the colors but the moire made it unusable. I never would buy one camera in the first half year as almost every new appearance suffered from teething troubles. Internal RAW 3:1 or ProRes Film looks very tempting.
In comparison to the FS7: CineEi gives you great images but I am sure that BM is even or rather better and if you consider the flexibility of RAW and manual white balance it has some real benefit. If you shoot CineEI 1000 or 2000 the lower ISO performance of the Ursa shouldn't be an issue. 4K/60p and 2K/120 will be enough for me and it isn't that far from the FS7.
I will watch and wait with some buckets of popcorn. But I am really tempted :-)

Unfortunately, it still exists. Because it's affected all 10+ cameras they have to some degree, I think it's a result of how they simply make their cameras and process the image. I don't think it can be fixed. But if you shoot in the right conditions, you can avoid it.

It does 4K/60p and 1080/120p. That's not bad.
 
For what they are I'm sure they are lovely but the caveats for shooting with them make them instantly something I'd never be interested in. Hopefully the last few debacles can finally lay to rest all the crazy people shouting how this FS7/Scarlet-killer has got Red and Sony terrified etc etc...
