VaricamLT: 5-Pin XLR Mic

Hey all - I'm curious to hear if anyone is using a mic with the 5-pin XLR stereo input on the LT. My understanding is that that input is meant to be fed a signal from a mixer, but I do a lot of shoots without sound guys - Is anyone using a microphone with it? Could I get some kind of 3-pin to 5-pin xlr adapter and use my existing shotgun mic for it? Or would I need a mic that has the 5-pin built in, like this one?

It's pricy and I can't seem to find anything else that has a 5-pin connection built in. And all the 3-pin to 5-pin adapters I've found say they're for DMX, not audio.

Basically I'm trying to free up inputs 3&4 for other uses. I have a shoot coming up where I'll have 2 lavs running into those inputs, and would like to have a shotgun mic plugged into the 5-pin for nat sound. Would this work or is that input for mixers only?

When I bought my first P2 VariCam(I know we're talking LT), the stereo 5-pin cam mic was on backorder, so I had a single 3-pin XLR to 5-pin XLR adapter cable made so that I could use a "regular" mono cam mic with the Vari until the stereo mic came in and it worked just fine. Shouldn't be an issue with the LT, either.

I've done a small amount of soldering, not much, but it's an interesting option. Not a bad idea to get a kit and have the ability to work on my own cables either. Could I solder that connecter onto a cable I already have? Would love to have it at the end of a coiled cable that already has neutrik connectors.

Yeah you should be able to add a connector to an existing cable pretty easily. I highly recommend watching a few YouTube videos on proper technique so you don't end up with a glitchy cable. If I remember there's a pin out in the manual.
