5 Days - same clip, different aspect

lol. i like the aspect ratio you used. But i thought it was 2.35:1 no?

So if your using clip in premier i think its 22 for footage shot in 4x3

how did you export it in that ratio?

ahhhhh...i didn't use clip.

first yes it is 2.35:1, but some have 2.39:1 and i checked properties of various trailers on apple and a couple had 2.40:1...anyway i actually just used a little math. if 16x9 is 4x3 squared then what would 4x3 cubed be...64x27 so i used that.

anyway in premiere i made a custom project with a frame size of 720x304 and then imported the footage. yes it's squashed, but then i used "image pan" and the beauty of it all is with image pan you can frame the shot you want and if in the clip i posted at the beginning that's not the camera panning/tilting down it's image pan. so with image pan i sized it at 720x304.

finally on export...made quicktime and avi clips at 720x304. i tried to make letterbox versions by importing the clips and using maintain aspect ratio. it looked perfect in the window, but on export things went nuts. thinking i may need to reinstall directx...

hey zach maybe you didn't catch the headline "same clip" ;)

one reason i used it was because on the other thread it was suggested that i make the framing tighter so i adjusted the aspect ratio to accomplish that and yet you come along with your whimsical insight.

i've actually been waiting for someone to give me grief about the actor watching "the matrix"

I am not sure if it is the compression, but, is it softer that the previous one? The frame looks much better. I think the next thing to do is to crush those blacks until the contrast reach a point that will start to bleed specially were there is not much of the couch. Your framings are descent, the acting is not the best I have seen. Play with that and post, you will notice the response you will get.

Best,

actually yes, but i think that was due to me deinterlacing. the final won't look like that because it'll be no fields using the full 24p frames. plus there's a lot to be done in post - which we are nowhere near.

zach...

show me yours and i'll show you mine...that can't be right...no seriously i know what you're getting at, but i posted that to show the difference in framing by changing the aspect ratio. as for more footage - ahhhh several hours worth to go through, but not there yet. don't worry will have something by next week.

YOU CANT HANDLE MINE. jk

i see what you mean- i like the new aspect ratio. just an extra thing- if you have the funds, buy a mic. i just got my at4073a today, and it makes a world of difference

hmm, i just tried it in pp1.5 and i got 720x270 to be the frame size that fits 2.35:1

the only problem is that in your project window, you have to switch the video settings to playback for windows, instead of dv playback.

speaking of ppro "image pan" is now a function of "motion" right? motion in premiere 6.x and lower isn't that great. how is it in pro?
