5.6

I have been shooting at 5.6 but I have some up coming shots that are chase scenes and thinking I need to have it set at 8.0 giving me more area for focus. Anyone shoot above that?

Higher apertures use less of the peripheral glass, and thus benefit from better optical quality. However, depending on the aperture design the lens can suffer from diffraction if the aperture is too small.

From my experience an F/8 is typically ok and very good quality. It seems F/11 and over is where diffraction starts to effect the sharpness of an image.

I've shot at f/32. But, hey, whatever makes you the most comfortable. My only real concern with shooting video it narrow apertures is how easy it is to notice dust or smudges on the glass.

For Canon up to F11 is fine. For D800 and GH4 stay below F8 for max sharpness if possible.

I'd think by F32 you'd be seeing a LOT of diffraction on just about any modern sensor.

Yeah, there is diffraction at f/32. If you look at sharpness charts, though, it isn't much worse than shooting wide open and a lot of people shoot wide open. Also, I sincerely doubt that anybody could point out a difference in video quality at varying apertures at Canons' 1080p.
