4x5.65 Polarizer Question

I have a Formatt Circular Pol 4x5.65 and the thing doesn't work like a round threaded type circular pol. Can't really see it cutting down any glare or anything, When just looking through a round pol and turning the front element you can see the reduction in reflections and glare, with th 4x5 mounted in a rotating stage in a matte box you just cant see any change. Do I need 2 of these running stacked on one another like a round pol or what? Anyone have any insight into this?

Thanks!

Have not had that problem with mine. There is a clear and definite difference when rotating my polarizer in the matte box.

You are keeping the sun at a 45 to 90 degree angle to the camera, yes?

Any chance you have a defective piece of glass?

well the sun i'm not real worried about, I just try not to shoot into it all that often. Glare & reflections are more of my concern at this point. Should the pol be run in front of the other filters like NDs and such, could that be effecting it's performance?

Just had a thought, the frame of the filter says it's a pol, but is not specific in saying it's either a linear or circular, anyone else care to look at their formatt 4x5.65 pols frame and see if it's states circular anywhere. I may have gotten the wrong piece of glass even though the case and frame both say pol just not what type.

The easy way to tell if a polarizer is going to have any effect is to simply hold one in front of you and rotate it. If you like what you see when you turn the filter, then use it.

On the other hand, circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras. It doesn't mean they will not also work on manual systems and video cameras.

I do actually have the Formatt 4x5.65" Linear Polarizing Schott-Desag B270 Crown Optical Glass Filter... Excellent!

I suggest you to read the Formatt Catalog on pages 8 to 10.

It says... "When two polarizers are placed together it is possible to achieve near black out, dependent on the angle in which they are aligned. This enables intense effects to be created."

Mine just says POLARISER in the left upper corner.

That's all.
