4K Sony Handycam

Time to revive my "2013 will be the death of HD" thread.... I really really really cannot see why the hell we should stay down in the lows. It's called f'ing progress, and by summer there will be more of these fellars with higher quality sensors that will match the current HD and 2K sensors in DR and so on.

Get over the HD fad... 4K is here, now... anyone wanna buy an FS100?

You say that like things are going to stay that way forever... naive.

Nope, not naive, just realistic... I said when these things first enter the market those will be the choices. No LARGE sensor 4K camera will come out for 5 to 7 grand this year. If you think one will while the FS100, C100, AF100A, FS700 (without upgrade) and other 1080 cams go for that, it is you who is naive. A cycle down the road...sure why not? Just not this one. These companies aren't going to undercut their existing products.

I'm possibly one of the few people that is depressed by the looming shadow of 4k-everything (maybe it is because I was working in broadcast through the whole digital conversion apocalypse). I think that almost anyone rational has to admit that no one needs (or will be able to see the difference in) 4k television, but this is evidently the price we are going to pay to save the Japanese electronics industry. The funny thing is that this is the same line of reasoning I heard from several Sony reps back when we were buying $90K HDcams, how HD was going to save the Japanese broadcast industry.

I was quite the opposite perspective, but also the same boat.

When 1080 was introduced, I thought it was a waste, an interim a speed bump. We knew broadcast would be slow to even get 720p (which much of HD is still today). And online content would be varied resolutions depending on viewer's patience.

1080HD was a waste. Should've gone straight to 4k in a nice slow and mature way. Not this crazy HD/digital/slash no confidence mess. Was it necessary(for the profits and survivability of manufacturers and for the technology to be paid for)?
