4K Samsung NX 1 now available for pre-order

I think rolling shutter artefacts are one of the most screaming video-like qualities of digital videography. It's only invisible when the camera is locked off on a tripod AND the subjects are not moving, like shooting a wide landscape, but for anything else it's very apparent. Stable non-jelloy images look awesome really, like the ones from the F35, BM4K, Bolex, very filmic motion rendetion.

Reds, Arri, F5, C500, 1DC all have that issue, some less than the others, but they do have it despite being of uncompromised price points, so it sees that it's an in fact a technology limit, manufacturer can't get rid of it without having bad iage quality charcterists. So I predict we're very far away from eliinating the rolling shutter phenomenon.

The positive side about it that these movie cameras have it, so audience have become very accustomed to it and they don't see it as a non-filmic quality because they see it in well, films! I am yet to have a client complain about rolling shutter even in severe scenes I am guilty of shooting. So it's not all that bad, but for me, it looks absolutely video-like and quite terrible.

Manufacturers need to start either increasing the sensor read speed to very high numbers like 2ms (alexa) or completely utilising global shutter sensors, so we'll have to wait for them to solve the lowlight issue that's tied with global shutter sensor designs.

There are various technologies in development that purport to give the rolling shutter a more of a global shutter appearance.

And, of course, one can "fix it in post" as well.

Loaded with banding that reminds me of old HDslrs. Are you using neat video or something?

The banding is from the h.265 encoding Wondershare. I think Andrew found another encorder that doesn't band as much but I had already encoded the material. But I'll try it again.
For me the film was more seeing about the jello and how it handles more intense dynamic range and skin color in mixed lighting situations and how it handles car motion.

Banding to me at this point can be easily solved. Jello and image stabilization and dynamic range cannont - and the NX1 past my crash test.

I still need to do charts on it. I will at some point.

I just noticed that B&H and Adorama are both including a free Rode VideoMic Pro shotgun mic and a 64GB SDXC card with the purchase of the Samsung NX1/16-50mm lens bundle.

Ok...I give up....I cant copy+paste the links normally...dont know why....and NO....Im not drunk...:-) Anyway....if you do a search for NX1 in vimeo...there are a few fresh videos!

Yep...thats what Im doing...but no luck...and I can not even quote...probably something is wrong with my pc...oh well...
