FS5: 4K Raw Struggles on Sony FS5

Hi Everyone.

I am a bit of newbie to film camera configurations. i am shooting on the Sony FS5 with the RAW upgrade installed and on firmware V4.03. I have hooked that up to an ATOMOS NINJA INFERNO via HDMI. In QFHD I am able to record 4K 25 on the recorder. When i switch the REC OUT to RAW 4K/50 the recorder is only receiving a 1080i/50p signal. Please help me out.

The raw data is only sent via SDI, not HDMI. You need to connect the FS5 to the Inferno via an SDI cable.

EDIT: it looks like the Ninja Inferno is only HDMI, in which case you can’t utilize the FS5 raw signal.

No problem.

To my knowledge, the only on-camera recorders that handle raw from the FS5 are the Odyssey 7Q+, the Atomos Shogun Inferno, and the Atomos Shogun 7.

Thats perfect because i was looking at the Atomos Shogun 7 HDR as a solution. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...atomshg701_shogun_7_hdr_monitor.html/overview. What then was the purpose of the NINJA INFERNO? Purely as a monitoring device because it also offers recording capabilities. Or is it similar to the Ninja 5 and geared towards DSLR and mirrorless cameras?

Besides monitoring, the Ninja Inferno was for all HDMI cameras which could output 10-bit 422, or for some that could only output 4K/60p 10-bit 422 (or 4K/60p).

The 7" monitor design came about half a decade before the Ninja V and they kept improving it over the years.
