4K Monitor Worth It?

This doesn't exactly have to do with our cameras, but since we're shooting 4K footage... who actually has a 4K computer monitor? (or UHD)

I'm trying to decide if it's worth getting one. Seems odd to shoot 4K footage i can't even view, so i'd love to see it in it's full glory. Yet, when you edit it's usually in a smaller window within your NLE. Not sure how often i'd actually sit and watch the footage fullscreen in 4K at this point. I'd probably get a 28" screen, sit at a desk with it pretty close. (not a 60" some say you need to tell the difference)

1. I know i want an IPS monitor.
2. I'm interested in G-Sync (for gaming!).
3. And probably 4K.

Hard to find them all in one, so i guess i'm looking to skip out on one of those options, and i originally thought G-Sync should go. But i'm actually starting to question the need for a UHD monitor. (if not, i would get 1440p). Unless UHD really makes a difference, i'd hate to miss out.

What do you all think? Is a 4K monitor worth it?

I've thought about it here and there, but it's not happened for me just yet. Basically, the 4K monitors I've found in my price range don't have the other specs/reviews that I want in a monitor. And while I'm recording lots of 4K material these days, I'm still not delivering much in 4K, so I feel like monitoring in HD is fine for now.

I would say if you're delivering in 4K then it probably would be worth it. But, that's just me. If a good-enough monitor hit the market at a good price, I'd jump on it.

UHD looks so great on a 1080p monitor because of all the detail packed into that resolution. Looking at the footage in its true native resolution might might reveal mistakes, noise or artifacts you could otherwise have missed and failed to address.

But no I don't have a 4K monitor, I'm just conjecturing.

I have the dell 24 inch UHD monitor. Even at that small size the 4k is noticeably more detailed then hd, but the difference isn't that big. I would probably just wait until the 4k monitors get cheaper and cheaper, which they will, and buy a bigger screen when you want.

The only 4kish monitor I have is my 5k iMac. I admit its really cool to have a 100% 4k image plus timeline in the same monitor while editing. But still it really isn't worth it unless you absolutely "need" to be shooting in 4k-especially if you'd be sitting close to it like you'd be doing. Sure it definitely helps to have a 4k monitor when determining sharpness and denoising 4k footage, other then that just a lot more pixels which aren't really needed

There were several Black Friday deals on 4k monitors/TVs last year which were amazing, hoping for even better deals this year! You may want to wait until then if you'd want to go 4k
