FS7: 4K From HDMI To 7Q+? You Betcha!

"we were wrong"? Sorry, but I saw 4096x2160 as an HDMI output option the first day I was scrolling through menus... not really a grand revelation.

I thought when originally announced the FS7 was going to be a UHD camera only, and then later add full 4K support?

Was it shipped with full 4K on v1.0 firmware or..... ?

No, he's talking about the HDMI output. Internal recording is currently limited to UHD.

Robert, I downloaded your clip and it appears to have an image quality issue that I've seen using my 7Q+ with the FS7 in 4096x2160 mode (the issue doesn't seem to show up in UHD mode)... There are vertical lines that sort of "tear" the image... they seem to be evenly spaced from left to right.

168i4+

And here is a test shot I did that showed it:

130bk+

Like I said earlier, this issue doesn't show up in UHD mode but it does show up when I set the FS7 to send out true 4K. It did this with various cables and adapters.

Also, I tested this with the GH4 set to output 4K and the internal UHD file was perfectly clean, but the 7Q+'s 4K file had these tears. Maybe you and I have defective 7Q+s or something... but I'm surprised that even with Convergent Design shooting promo videos with a bunch of cameras that this didn't show up for them (or they only shot UHD). I didn't post anything about it yet on the chance that it was just a fluke with my 7Q+ but now that I've seen your clip, I see that I'm not alone.

Reading the start of that post I thought you were going to say that the Odyssey recorded giant googly eyes over everything.

Josh brought this to our attention earlier and we are analyzing this issue now. I'll report back when we know more.
Thanks, Mitch. I held off from posting anything for a while just in case it was an isolated incident (didn't want to cause unnecessary drama) but since my testing lead me to think it only effects 4096 input, I thought it was relevant to this topic for people to see what I've had happen so they don't jump into a shoot and get burned.

I hope it's an easy fix!
