I have the Ax100 and have been using it since April. Having the ability to punch in on the image on the timeline has been a huge benefit for me. I absolutely love that feature. Like having a second camera man but digitally knowing the angle isn't being played with.
What do you mean punch in on the image in the timeline ?
Like having a 2nd camera man but digitally knowing the angle isnt being played with?? not sure i understand
On both the CX900 and the AX100 if you shoot at 1080p I believe it's actually shot at 4K but "downsized" in the camera. So, I assume things shot at 1080p from both would be similar. The big difference comes from shooting 4K footage with the AX100 but using it in a 1080p timeline. That downsizing is said to give even greater detail and sharpness than actually shooting at 1080p.
This is also what the punching in comment refers to. 4K footage in a 1080p timeline allows for much more scaling up of the footage when needed without noticeably losing detail.
Me? I'm as interested in the 1" sensor, NDs, touch screen manual focus, and 120 fps @ 720p as in the 4K though, and I can get all that with the CX900.
But I can't decide whether to get a much less expensive camera like the Panasonic FZ1000 (no NDs or touch focus, but has the rest plus a longer zoom and 120fps @1080) to dabble in 4K until the next generation of 4K cameras. 4K without more than 30fps is not yet drawing me in.
As I have Canon glass, I'll probably wait until September's supposed 7D Mk II announcement before I do anything though. By this fall, I'll have more options to consider.
