Shot with the Shogun Inferno in Pro Res HQ (Slog2). Rendered in Resolve Studio for REC202 HLG In DVNxR HQ 10bit.

Nice looking footage. HLG looks great on my MacBook Pro. It looks like your shutter speed isn't double your frame rate, but the streakiness of the snow looks nice here.

Thanks. Yes, on the shutter speed, as the snow "flakes" were tiny so I thought the streaks were preferred.

For this snowstorm, there were fat flakes and I used 1/250th shutter:

There is more room to experiment with high shutter speeds and slow-motion. I often use 1/500+.

I'm a firm believer in 'double the frame rate' to simulate a 180 degree shutter in film. It's one of my least favorite 'features' of the FS5 that it doesn't respect the shutter angle when shooting high speed. If that worked I would just leave it in 180 all the time.

1/500th is by far best for 240fps to my eye. Looks the most natural. I have a 24fps monitor that I use to evaluate.

It didnt look that slo mo on my computer.. a car goes though that looks like half speed .. not ¼ .. when I shoot 100fps its much more slo mo than the footage looked on my computer.. what is your base rate.. 60p..?

Right - shot 120 FPS (1/250th shutter), captured at 60p then slowed down to 30p. I could have halved the speed again by expanding the 120 FPS down to 30P, but I liked the pace, and the 120 FPS captures the motion well.

I've never seen snow in slow mo before. Its really very beautiful - Thanks for sharing. Actually I'd like to see some shots with just black as a background and watch the patterns, even see it as you changed the focus point.
I thought something looked familiar about the locale - What street are you on in New Haven?

Actually I was set up to do that - shoot snow in slow motion at night. I had my camera set and powerful LED lights to light up the flakes. Unfortunately, the snow was too scanty, so I had to quit. The snow the next day was nice and thick. Have to wait until next year...

But, here is what I got (4K, 120P):
