48 Hours of Madness video.

Hey guys, My friend Dane(the director) called me up and asked if I would help his team for a film festival thing called "48 hours of Madness"
http://www.bestfestsandiego.com/48Hours.html It was pretty intense and we had to turn this script into something somewhat intelligable, shoot and edit it in 48 hours.

We also hadn't figured out who was going to act in it before we did it. After a nights worth of phone calls we nearly couldn't find anyone to play either of the female roles. Fortunately in the morning my friend Jessica(Rita) said she could come help after 4, but since we needed someone else for the daytime and she gave us her friends Lola's(Candy's) number who after an extraordinarily odd voicemail from me(a complete stranger) called back and agreed to come, and shot everything she was in from one until four when she had to leave, which ultimately rushed some of the performances more than we would have liked, but I think she did a great job considering. I was shocked at how well my friend Jessica portrayed rita and I will definitely take advantage of her abilities in the future. My friend Brian showed up to play carl and Jon to play Bill, Kyle to play dennis. Not to say that I think it was the best but I think everyone did good considering none of them are actors.

I guess you could say I was the cameraman/cinematographer or dp or whatever for the shoot since I brought my equipment and composed and shot all the shots and told people where to put lights and stuff. Then we edited it, naturally it ran at 7 or 8 minutes, but we had to cut it down to 5. Oh and my friend jon(bill) rushed to my friend dave's house two hours before it was due and recorded the music for it in 15 minutes then we ran back to put it into the video. It was fun and a rush, it was a great experience working with so many agreeable people, this is what we came up with. Let me know what you think.

Sorry for the rant.
Thanks,
Peter

Hey man, the acting did not seem up to par, but hey, I know what you mean about being rushed! I've done 2 of those 48 hour things before and they were very fun, but the actors sucked...hehe.

Anyways, I love how your shots are composed. The style looks bleached to me. I don't know if it's my quicktime player or what, but I LIKE IT!

Good job for being in a rush.

thanks, yeah, I know the acting wasnt the best but I still have to give my friends some credit for at least trying and doing as good or as bad as they did...and I think if we had time to do more takes we could have gotten some more acceptable acting. But then again, auditions for parts would probably help too, we just had to do what we could.

Thanks for the compliments on my shots, I just had the master Ped turned all the way down and then I played with color-correction. Some of the shots and cuts bother me a bit, but I think it is still an improvement over everything else I have done(which isn't very much).

if anyone will respond to let me know what you think, it would be greatly appreciated, since I am here to learn.

Thanks

Real good for a rush job. I noticed the same song repeated whenever you used music. I think the party scene was probably the best in terms of pacing, and I liked how the music stopped there.

So all the movies used the same basic script? Can you post that? Did the movies all turn out different? What was your genre?

Peter,

Its me James Cameron. I haven't seen you since you helped me tie up the loose ends on T2 (thanks for that by the way). How have u been? I see your work is really progressing, and its evident in this short film (where were you on the set of Titanic, we could have really used some of those lighting techniques...you will have to show me sometime). Well keep up the good work Peter, you always had the eye for it. Lets do lunch sometime, I wanna go over some shots with you for my next "movie" (I don't like using the word "movie," I think the word "experience" suits our work much better, don't you agree?). Keep up the good work!!

Your bud,

James C.

Hey Gabe, thanks for the comments. I don't really know what genre it would be, since I'm really bad at classifying stuff...we got to do whatever we wanted. Unfortunately I don't have the original script on my computer, but they gave us a 4 paged script that made no sense, with blanks in it and we had to write the ending. We changed ours a bit, but not as much as a few of the other teams. All the teams entries were very different, but a couple teams went similar directions with it.

Jim, thanks for the props for my work on t2, it was really strange being 5 years old and editing and writing endings to big budget scripts. I barely remember it even happening, it almost seems like it was a dream. (I'm being sarcastic, i'm not just a really bad liar) hehe. Thanks for the post though James C., it warmed my heart and tickled my soul.

Thanks,
Peter
