Wassup guys...

Here is my first round with my newly acquired DVX100a.

This was shot last weekend, and completed between friday night at 7 and sunday night at 7... 48 hours.

The genre was horror. The line was, "all we've got is parts", the prop was gloves, and the character was Professor Heinseker.

The movie was shot on one DVX100a and another DVX100.

Settings:

detail level -5
chroma level +2
master ped -8
a.iris level -1
cinelike gamma
auto knee
cinelike matrix
24P

scenes were lit using an assortment of fresnel 650's, 350's, lowell DP's, bounce cards, and gels out the wazoo.

Hope you enjoy!

It is absolutely amazing what can be done in 48 hours. Awesome job Ted. Seriously, awesome job. The lighting was pretty good throughout the film and the talent really wasn't bad. You don't see a lot of good talent in most shorts. This is one of the best shorts I have seen on this site. Keep it up.

Thanks Kyle

not sure why it's taking forever. I did post this before the movie had finished uploading to the server. Maybe try again? It's fully uploaded now.

Sorry for the bar and tone... forgot to take it out.

Impressive for 48 hours. The only thing I felt that did not fit was the opener with the body in the park. Granted, I could link it to the kids (Am I right is assuming that ?). However I felt it was not needed and was rather vague. It was a quick way to use the line you were givin "All we've got is parts"

If I had to do this project myself, I would of done something along the lines of cutting a persons body up. Hehehe Or better yet stalk that person and have a quick flash here and there of the person getting dismembered and the killer dumping the body in the park, and THEN have the opener of your film.

Alas I did enjoy it the way you did it.

Good job.

Great job Ted. That was awesome for a 48 hour project. Who was the first mailman, he really very good, like a young Jack Nicholson. I'm from Atlanta as well and thought I recognized that neighborhood. Was that Decatur or Brookhaven? Anyway, great job.

Thanks guys.

Hey Gearworks, I actually agree with you. I like the story, but I wasn't too happy with the way it manifested itself on camera. I was a cinematographer for it, so I had no say in much else, which would only confuse things. I wish I could have directed it and edited it... there were things I would have done different.

The first mailman was a guy named greg thompson... a great actor. He was the principal on one episode of Dawson's Creek, and he just finished acting in an HBO/ESPN movie about the Earnhardt story. So, yeah, he was good.

The neighborhood was of of university avenue just south of I-20.

It screened tonight, and will be moving on in the top 9 at the Atlanta Film Festival, so we are happy!

Anyway, thanks for replying. Glad you like.

Looks great Ted. You really captured some good looking footage with the DVX. I loved the warm colors of the house interior - did you use any special gels to acheive that look? Also, did you set down tracks or did you use a doorway dolly for those moving shots? I've always been a sucker for a smooth-moving camera. :)

The talent was not bad at all. Loved the postal-worker's performance (although he was almost more creepy than the twins). I wish you guys the best of luck in the festival!

I quite liked the story too. There is one thing that no one has mentioned. One the first mail man comes to deliver the mail, I could hear the director shouting action. Did you guys notice this?

All the best

Fidel.

The flashes were done in After effects by just keyframing opacity and levels to blow it out real quick and then bring it back down. It's not hard, but it is effective.

The warm colors of the house interior was all lighting. We had an amazing gaffer on set. I was quite blown away. I hadn't had any experience with that kinda lighting before. I did learn that the DVX needs plenty of proper lighting in order to look good. Try to shoot under normal lights, and you won't get crap.

The dolly was a home made unit that ran on PVC tracks.

And yes, I did notice the "action"... it drives me nuts. I wasn't editing, but wish I had been. I can't believe they let that one slip.

Thanks again.

Ted
