GH3 45mm Zuiko

Holy schnikeys is this little thing nice.
I'm pretty lens agnostic. I've got a bunch of EOS L glass because I have a couple of Canons.
But I also think the Sigma 50mm is the sharpest 50 out there, sharper than my Canon 1.2 and as good or better bokeh.
I feel the same way about the Canon 85mm 1.8, vs my 1.4.

I love light and small but only if it performs at a first class level.
So when you see the Zuiko beside the 85m 1.8 let alone the 85mm 1.4 it's kind of silly.
But man, the detail and contrast is right there with both of these lenses.

My three favorite lenses I've shot in this range are the Nikon AIS 85mm, the Canons (aside from the extra 1/2 stop they're identical) and the Zeiss super speed 85mm.
This little beauty, while not able to give the kind of wide open bokeh you get with the others on a full frame or super 35, is right there with them in IQ.

I really didn't expect that. I just needed a good, fast MFT in this range for the new GH3.
I'm off to the great outdoors to test it for a second day, but so far I'm totally impressed.

Looking forward to seeing some more of your footage taken with the lens. I've enjoyed seeing what the GH3 can produce through your videos and it's given me some inspiration to do some testing with mine. So far, I'm loving the dynamic range and inherent sharpness of this camera after having shot with Canon DSLRs for the past few years. The only thing I really miss is the shallow DOF and creamy bokeh of my 5Ds, even with the Voightlander 25mm f/0.95...

Agreed, mine lives on my Olympus EM-5. I've found it's a good lens wide open not just for portraits but as a "street" lens as well. How is the focusing speed on the GH3?

The Oly 45mm is an excellent lens and one of the best MFT lenses out there. Very fast focusing, pleasing bokeh, and great low light performance. Pair it with the Leica 25mm f/1.4 and the Lumix 14mm f/2.5 and you have a great range of lenses for less than $1000.

That's what I'm finding crazy about this whole new MFT thing.
I won't even get into what I've spent for two lens kits that for that range...and it was well worth it.
But, for instance this Zuiko, it performs like lenses I have that cost 10 times it's price.
I'm just back from snowshoeing at sunset with it and downloading the footage.

the 45 is by far one of my fav lenses. it comes with me everywhere cause its so friggin small =) 14, 20, and 45 all take up the same space as one manual prime.

So this was my first trip out with the Zuiko. I'm still tweaking GH3 profile settings, this was Natural -4 -4 -1 -5. Moving in deep snow shooting handheld isn't optimum, so I didn't consistently hit the white balance in the changing sunset/giant soft box conditions.
