GH2 45mm f/1.8 loose focus

Anyone who has an Olympus 45mm f/1.8, can you confirm or deny that the focus ring is a bit loose? I have the Panasonic 14-140, 35-100 and Olympus 14-54mm with all focus rings feeling much more snug. Neither of these fly-by-wire lenses seem to have the slight looseness of this one. Also, it seems the focus ring bends turning oval shaped slightly when i focus with it. Might just be cheapish, plastic design, but again, I don't see this in my other lenses.

Mine is a bit loose as well. Nothing to worry about I guess. The lens is amazing but the build is quite horrible really. Well, at least it's not overpriced like other new Olly lenses...

It's realy a shame my 1960-70-80, lenses feel like a proper lens should, smooth as ice, and built like a tank. Of course their not as sharp. But when you complain of the lens going oval when you focus is really pathetic. It's to bad they use great optics in a crap housing.

Definitely. I think I misspoke though. I was mistaking the little bit of play as the lens going oval. Either way, I'm actually going to end up keeping it as I bough it from Korea on ebay. Which by the way, my particular seller has been fantastic and is willing to cover all shipping costs and handle the return to Olympus Korea himself. That's the bad part about getting this lens from Korea. Olympus America will not help you.

I Heard of enough accounts that this was common with the lens, even though some people have reported no play in the focus ring (lucky). Thanks, Brundy. But I think the thing to worry about is, I rented a 20mm f/1.7 once with what felt like, sand/dust in the focus ring as you turned it, giving a gritty, grinding type feeling. It's starting to happen slightly with my 14mm f/2.5. If this Olympus has more play than those, then there's a great chance more dust and dirt particles will get under the focus ring. Sucks. My guess is Olympus cut costs on the lens body as most reviews are based more on the optics. Just about all reviews note the cheap body as a side note. I guess not much else to say other than "hope it lasts!"

In any event, I got this lens pretty much for the AF for photography. I have an FD 50/1.2L, but I would even use my FD 50/1.4 over this Olympus for video anyway. To hell with fly-by-wire.
