$45 glass negatives turns out to be Ansel Adams Early Work... $200 million worth.

Saw that! Another great Ansel Adams story is a friend of mine here in KC also a member over at the Reduser.net forums bought an Ansel Adams from a garage sale for I think it was $45 way back when and sold it to buy a Red One camera to make his feature film, actually he bought 2 Reds. I told him Ansel would be proud! I'm pretty sure it was a museum that bought it from him but I always use to see the pic next to his computer at his house.

If I got those for that price and they turned out to be worth millions I would set up the original owner with some serious ca$h. At least buy him a house or something. Not just to be nice, but to keep karma from biting back in some way. :)

For certain. I'm not sure any human on earth wouldn't at least toss that guy a cool million or so. I mean... 1/2 of 1% isn't anything.

Authentic or not, throw the number 200 million out there, and they will come out of the woodwork in all directions. Nothing can kindle a cluster-f#$k like $200,000,000.00.

The observation in the article is true, though - what makes an Adams is the printing process, more than the negative - however much cachet the negative might gain, from being one of Adams'.

I'll give you that. Adams was so very meticulous about printing his photos, but come on... the original glass negatives, shaaaaaa!

I gotta go to more yard sales!

I agree with the kharma statement.

I've always wanted to stop off at a small town and ask to go through someone's attic and find that first edition of the Superman comic book, or something cool like that.

It's on my bucket list. That's just one crazy story.
