4 min Estuary Project

Hello All,

This 4 min project was developed for a local Estuary working group and has since been picked up by a world film festival. It's the first piece i've posted on DVXUSER, as the caliber of work here is very impressive and I'm quite critical of my work. I'm looking for constructive feedback, as I've been asked to develop a 45-1r doc as a result of this project. Thanks in advance for all comments.

The Courtenay River Estuary

Hi Fieldreportermf,

My opinion regarding making this 4 min into a loner 45-1r documentary is the following: usually there is a question/problem presented to the viewer at the beginning, and throughout the documentary an answer/solution is is searched/found; it is the thread of looking for this answer/solution that keeps the viewer engaged through out the documentary.

So, what is it about this "estuary"? What makes it special? Yes, I watched the 4 min video and heard all the information the people said, but is that it? Are you simply going to have 1hr documentary with "talking heads" informing us of the values of this? Because if it is, then there's no need for a 1hr doc, this 4 min video is enough.

What is it about this topic that needs my attention for 45-1hr?

For example, in Bowling for Columbine, the question that is asked is the following: "what makes 2 teenagers get guns, go to their school and start shooting people?" Once this is presented to us, Michael Moore then sets of in a journey trying to figure out the answer to this question.

So I repeat, what is the question/problem regarding this particular river?

The best of luck in all your projects!

-K
