4 Camera Shootout and Blind Test

I got curious and was hoping for some help.

What I'm trying to answer is what type of images appeal to what type of people online.
Therefor I'm posting this on various forums and ask my friends and such in order to get everything from fellow producers, to enthusiasts, pro shooters and all the way to people that couldn't care less about cameras.

As a bonus I'm looking to see what type of people notice artifacts, what people think about different grades, lights, movement and so on.

You will probably guess it fro the video but grading and lighting has not been done in any serious way. But thats also one of the points of the test.

So in Part 1
I'm simply recording a selfie while I'm chewing gum (yes its boring like nothing else).
If you feel like helping out I would appreciate it.

In Part 2 I made two more scenes. One with detail and motion and one closeup.

To clarify, I rather know which you liked best in each scene/look than which one you liked best over all.
I will post the result from the votes here in a few days or so.

Thanks, Mattias

(some have started guessing on cameras which is also a fun and statisics of guesses will also be presented.)

The results are in...

In these scenes I had a small preference of camera B and C. ...but not so much camera B outside with trees.

But what I really want to know is.....WHAT KIND OF GUM IS THAT? Looks serious!

B inside and outside are different cameras.
The gum is called "Extra" :)

So people don make up their minds and then defend their first thought, subconsciously or not.

Good point. I agree with that very much.

OK, I will watch again and list specifically by scene.

SCENE PREFERENCES:
1 - C
2 - C
3 - B
4 - C
5 - B

*But I feel there was not enough information in the scenes to make a very complete judgement. Some more motion and/or content would have helped to show differences.

OK - order of preference from highest to lowest, so 1) would be higher than 2) and 4) would be worst.

Scene 1

1)B
2)C
3)D
4)A

Scene 2

1)B
2)D
3)C
4)A

Scene 3

1)B
2)D
3)C
4)A

Scene 4

1)B
2)A
3)C
4)D

Scene 5

1)C
2)B
3)A
4)D

Weird. In the first 3 scenes I liked B the best, but in scenes 4-5, it was all over the place, though I guess I liked D the least in 4-5, and overall, B more than most (#1 and #2 position in 4 and 5 respectively). I'm sure I don't need to point this out, but of course the field of vision and framing was different from take to take, so it was what it was.

Ha, well, my choices were at least consistent: I liked the HMC151 for outdoor scenes the best - and I guess the dog detail too. And I liked the BMPCC for indoor scenes the best. Hmm, I'm not sure what to think about that.

Well this was interesting.

I chose:

1. Digital Bolex
2. Digital Bolex
3. BMPCC
4. GM-1
5. GM-1

I haven't even heard of the GM-1.

But I did already know that I generally like the look of the Digital Bolex and certainly the Blackmagic cameras.

A weird test - but a good one I think. (Because we learned a couple things from it.)

I finally got to watching this. This are my notes as I was watching the blind test, together with the revealed results.

A - GM1 - soft, decent DR but not great, muddy skin
B - pocket - sharp, good DR, good skin detail
C - D16 - similar to A
D - HMC151 - panasonic (sharp but horrible DR)

A - D16 - moire, soft, low DR
B - HMC151 - panasonic (sharp but horrible DR)
C - GM1 - clean, a lot more DR
D - pocket - minor moire, sharp and with good DR, but ugly colors

A - pocket - sharp, clean, good DR
B - GM1 - similar to A
C - HMC151 - much nicer contrast (more DR)
D - D16 - horrible in the dark tones - panasonic?

So: I liked the pocket, and was terribly disappointed by the D16. The HMC151 looked horrible in all tests except the last one... in which it would have been my first pick, go figure
