I've used Westscott Scrim Jims since the 90's and had a sewing-lady make me a bunch of custom strip lights, just ripstop and duvatyne. They're pretty handy, and for some shots they're hard to do with anything else. Great for things like bottles and beverage cans, too. They're not the same as putting a mask on a softbox since you get all the bounce from the back of the panel, but OK if your scene doesn't need to be 100% low key.

Needed it for those sunglasses, I liked the strip of reflection:
