proav, a dealer in uk told me today the new swit 8u63 which will work with FS7 will come out first week in January, so maybe worth wait for a bit longer.

No worry Alex I made a decision to go with the extension unit an V-Locks. My work is 98% hand held an I am sure I will appreciate the better balance.

Thanks for the input Lucas. Might get a couple if I go for a Ronin in the Spring, but for now V-Locks.

The Watsons DO NOT WORK! I just tried. Well actually it does work for about three seconds until you see a "Battery Error. Please Change Battery" message; then the camera powers down.

Great news from SWIT! They just notified us that the upgraded version of their S-8U63 battery is available, it is compatible with Sony FS7. The battery has a sticker to distinguish the new version. The price did not change. We are updating our website, so the orders could be placed by tomorrow morning .
This is the link to the order page We added the "7" to the battery model number to avoid confusion with the older version of the same that we still have in stock. The actual battery looks the same as the older one except for the newly added sticker.

That's awesome to hear. So the S-8U63 is around $200, right? Are they doing a battery around 90Wh? Or is the 63 the biggest?

Just received the battery. It rocks!

Is it possible to access the D-tap on the new battery on the fs7? I heard the deep battery slot doesn't give a lot of clearance for the d-tap. Thanks

I make a special D-tap plug that works fine with the Swit and the FS7. I also will just give you the STL file if you have a 3D printer so you can print it yourself and solder the wire together.

More info and you can buy it here:

Just want to share my experience with the HawkWoods battery (BP-FS7U),
I am really happy with mine and can recommend it if anyone needs D Tap. I was shooting a behind the scene doc today with FS7 and leave the camera on 90% of the time and the battery lasted about 5 hours (with 2 hour footage)

The Battery has 75 watts and is solidly build. Its a well thought out design as there are two D-taps at the back of battery, one D Tap is connected to the camera via an included adapter and the other one is free for accessories.

The D taps are placed at the back of the battery so there is no interference by the camera, unlike the Swit ones.

I've been winning OEM Sony BPU30 batteries on Ebay for $30-50 when they come up. Price depends on whether new or used. May be a bit of an inconvenience to change the battery every hour and a half, but I do narrative rather than events, so I can live with it.

I am considering the HawkWoods. Anybody have a US source?

Thanks,
