3d muzzle flash plugin

That is extremely cool. Very, very interesting, and not just the muzzle flash plugin, but all of them.

Thanks for the heads up rook.

It looks great....lots better than I'd expect from a plugin. I like that they've incorporated the 3D space into it, i just hope that it has keyframing capability in the 3D space of the plugin. I presume they would, but not sure...granted with the quickness of the flash, probably wouldn't need it, but it'd be nice to have.

I've been using stock footage til now...but i may have to give this a whirl...thanks for sharing.

I was thinking about doing a quasi 3d muzzle test, basically:

Use billboard 2d planes in 3d space as the "flames" and apply video of actual flames/flashes, then simply hand track/key frame the movement, it sould look pretty damn good I think. Blur + Glow, you all done.

I test it one day.

there is a bunch of free stuff on that site that I've found...

I went looking after I read that and found the section of free sounds. I've always loved doing post sound work and sound design, and usually, when a site offers free sounds, not only are they in a low quality format, but usually just plain suck. I was impressed with what they had. Surprised too.

That's pretty much the way I have done it, though I have also played with procedurals and volumetrics, using hi con textures as an alpha on them for shape isolation. I've had a lot of luck doing it the way you describe as well, and it really cuts down on render times. Their plugin though looks like it uses your video card (much like Illusion would be if they ever finally went true 3D) and looks real time. That's one major advantage over going one the 3D route, as is keeping it in program.

I may have to buy this damn thing now.

Thanks rook, now YOU get to explain to my wife about the expenditure and why I am running around the house with a toy rifle.

Cool matt!, thats the same conclusion I come too, I knew volumeterics would just take too long (even if it look uber real)

As a side note, those guys [FXhome] actually graduated from our Uni, infact from our department as well, heh even some of there videos where shot in the woods near our old house. :) small world!
