GH2 3D lens (H-FT012) on GH2

I shot some stills with the 3D lens on the GH2. PM me with your email address if you want me to email some to you. It was coffee and huevos rancheros yesterday morning. I saw some talk on this forum about the lens and if it does video or not but no talk of technique for just shooting stills. It is F12 only and requires a good amount of light. I shot some with flash and some without. I shot some on the icon that was FOOD and some with OBJECT. I guess it is typical to shoot food macro. Minimum focus distance is .6m or 1.97 feet. I know the camera has a Viera link and images can be seen in 3D on a Panasonic panel, but I don't have one. Do you?

Notes from the manual:

"If you feel tired, uncomfortable or otherwise strange when viewing 3D pictures, stop viewing at once. When viewing 3D pictures on a 3D compatible television, position yourself a distance away that is at least 3 times the effective height of the television. For 42" approx. 5.25 feet" (Page 10).

I have the 3D lens and have been trying it out with my GH2. I've been pleasantly surprised by the results, better than I expected, although I'm still doing a lot of learning about how to get the best 3D images.

I have a 3D Pannie plasma so I can see the images :) - still looking for a smaller, cheaper solution for on-site "proofs" though. In theory the MPO format files will display on the Fujifilm V1 3D viewer (which doesn't need glasses) but I haven't found one to try it out on yet. If it's halfway decent I planned to get one for use in the field, just a pity they didn't bother to put HDMI input on it which would make it infinitely more useful.

You do need a lot of light, but I made a somewhat surprising discovery that using the inbuilt flash can make the 3D subjectively more effective, as the shadows throw things into relief more. Careful use of flash and lighting in general is going ot be key to getting dramatic effect I think (it was ever thus)

The still image quality from the GH2 + 3D is better (of course) than from the SDT750 camcorder and also fills the Pannie screen entirely, which the camcorder doesn't quite do, and looks really good as a result.

I'm going to try shooting in different modes and see what that does, just been using standard so far.

Cheers

Neil

Panasonic's website says of this TV, [TC-P42GT2542 Class Viera GT25 Series Full HD 3D 1080p Plasma (41.6" Diagonal)] 1.) Shoot 2.) Insert SDHC card 3.) View. There is no SDHC slot on the TV. 1.) Will a USB / SDHC adapter do the trick? 2.) This part doesn't say anything about 3D: [VIERA Image Viewer Easy viewing of full-HD photos and videos].

I would just like to see some pics in 3D.

@Ben_B, are you kidding?

Philip, if you are wandering around Best Buy look for the Pannie P50VT20 or P42VT20, as these are the standard 3D plasma models most likely to be on display, at least until the new ranges hit the shelves in a few months. Both of these have an SD card slot and it works fine with the card and images from the 3D cameras.
