Well Hudson has me on a 3D kick with his fantastic Corsair project, so I figured i'd throw one in the mix i've been playing with. (Cinema4D)

Wow Kai, that's very impressive! I love the look of the second pic, kind of has a noir, new edge feel to it.

How long did the modeling/rendering take?

Thanks man. I've been playing with it for about 3 days. The texture/lighting/rendering stage is my favorite by far. So much more flexible than lighting a physical set. You can really experiment without too much fuss.

nice work!
that is my favourite too.
you can put it in your next film :D as the car falls down from the mountain; it would be a bit more expensive :D

Question Kai,

How long did it take you to get where you your are with Cinema4D? Your work looks very polished. Great job!

Thanks guys...

Goldenboy55, I started in 3d about 7 years ago on maya and lightwave, but haven't really touched it much for about 5 years. So, the basics I knew back then are still similar. But to answer your question, I got up to speed on C4D in about a month's time, using it every now & then (probably 20 total hours maybe). It's actually pretty easy compared to Maya, Max, etc.

Damn you guys... your getting me in the mood to do some 3d!

Great work kai.

Wow that's awesome Kai! The reason I asked is because I've got a copy of Lightwave 3D and I haven't had the chance to use it yet! Reason being is that I haven't had the time to sit down and focus all my attention on it. Now that I know it's gonna take some time to learn I'll have to set aside some time to fit in at least 1 or 2 hours for learning this program in my daily schedule. I've always been a fan of 3D animation and hopefully in the near future after trial and error I can post some of my work on DVXUser.

Any advice for a newbie in world of 3D animation?

I'd suggest dropping the ducket's and getting a tutorial DVD on this software. This way you can focus on individual chapters at your leuisure.

I have 2 from Digital Tutors for XSI and they are wonderful ! ONe os Intro to XSI and the other is Particles and shite....

Anyway; I'd suggest doing that ! I know quantam levels about XSi than I did last month when I started !

Thats really bitchen Kai!

Awesome work. Are you planning on animating or doing a composite with it ?

J

Thanks man, Yeah I had considered it, but this was really just a test to see what the software could do at this point. I may end up using it for something.

On the best way to learn, do what John said. Pick up some tutorial discs and perhaps maybe even a book or two on your weapon of choice and just dive in. You won't know until you try.

Thanks for the input John! I'll look into those DVD's.

Kai-

Please share some lighting and rendering tricks. More specifically, if you know ANYTHING about using a HDRI light probe to light a car, that would be great. I am more of a Premiere, After Effects guy, but I gotta use Maya right now to make my car look way real. It's killing me...

Thanks in advance!
Rick
