3D is probably here to stay.

What I'm trying to say is, can't we keep all the 3D pro/con discussions in one thread?

I didn't intend this to be a pro/con thread. Our personal opinions about 3D are meaningless, unless someone here owns a film studio. My original point is that as long as the studios draw the conclusion that 3D = boxoffice, it's here to stay. The high grosses of mediocre 3D content overseas have further strengthened that opinion amongst the suits.

3-D movies have two distinct advantages overseas--they can't be duplicated by local productions and, even better, they have a built-in safeguard against piracy, since the 3-D ingredient can be seen only in a theater.

The second one of those, I think, is the real reason that 3D is here to stay... For that matter, I wouldn't be suprised if that's the thing that makes the 2D option go away (in theaters, anyway).

A good deal of the biggest box office is derived from animated features. As long as studios are putting out films like How To Train Your Dragon in 3D, audiences will pay the premium to see it in that format.

Like lemmings to the cliff, unless it's a 3D cliff that is, then they just get headaches...

I know a lot of people that can't watch 3D content. It either makes them sick to their stomach or they get migraines. I don't think 2D is going any where, no matter what James Cameron does.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is bad but fun.

Sometimes one needs to watch Milla kill Zombies. You know ?

Milla kill Zombies - should have been the title of the movie, or at the very least, the tagline on the poster.

It won't be long before 2D is an ancient art form...

That is why I am gonna really screw with people by making 3D black and white films. Or how about a 3D silent film bathed in sepia tones, but with a synth-based score?
