$375 for GH1 with LUMIX G VARIO 14-42mm Lens w/ Panasonic EPP !

fwiw, 99% of those who got this $375 deal the firmware is unhackable 1.34

but sell your lens for $100 (prepare for the ebay flood) and you got your gh1 for under $300 with the panny 2 yr warranty....not bad...not bad at all..worth it to get 2 at that deal imo

and who knows...some genius may figure out the hack eventually
So some got the old hackable GH1's ?

erik - you have our sympathies - we know - it took work - I worked on it for 3 days before it went thru - then I thought I had lost it because there was no record of my order and I messed up coordinating email addresses etc etc - I felt like doo ´cause I knew I was not going to get another chance - that lasted about 30 minutes and then I adjusted my sights - then later of course I called pany support and found my lens had shipped and my camera was shipping in two days - but the lesson is , when it´s time to move on it´s time to move on- and I have my own personal little torture game happening - I live in Mexico and my camera is at a friends house in Texas and I can´t get it until march ! patience grasshopper - with cameras .....it´s a never ending story - my advice .....watch ebay - someone will be selling one of these cheap or save alitte more for the 2 - it´s worth the difference truthfully

I think I figured out why mine was canned. For some unknown reason I kept getting the combo deal at $350 not the $375 the mail said. I thought I was getting an even better deal, looks like it might have been the cause for the cancel. Only crap is that Panny took nearly 5 days to contact me to tell me so I think they sold out by then.

I'm eyeing a GH13 currently but it's going to cost me nearly what 2 of these kits cost. Part of the reason I went for 3 cameras was to be able to set them up static to shoot the whole wedding unhanded ( I know bad form but it's something seeing as I can't get behind the screens due to it being my wedding I have to try to pull some behind the scenes craziness) then edit after the fact. It was going to be more of a loan really. i was going to sell the other 2 and keep 1 after the wedding so 2 cam's used for 45 minutes then sold and heck I could have even taken a hit on them and been ok with it. I'm bidding on GH1's but they new bodies only are still selling for $500, the weak 14-42 was to get me by but now I got to actually spend $150+ for that. And I'm pretty much limited to 1 cam now thanks to funds. Weddings should just be estimated $ wise and then tripled for what it will actually cost you. :)

why are you using ghs´for a wedding video? I´d recommend smallform canon or sonys´with smaller sensors and better AF ...esp unmanned

Because at $350 each I was going to be able to afford it and even if it was shooting in 720p 60p on one and 1080 60p on the other 2 I'd at least have better quality video than a couple of flipHD's sitting and crashing. It was a bargin buy at the package price. So much so I would keep on and flip the other 2 for the same price I paid. Just wanted 3 cams running with 3 32gb cards recording nice video, this is a huge step up from not having any video or using my Powershot Elf running 720 from 35 feet...

smallform canon - you can't add lenses
sony? are you kidding lol

geez ...another beginner who doesn´t know what they´re talking about ! Number one ...sony makes great handycams , and two, you don´t add lenses unless you´re talking about adapters, to video cameras ....they usually already have their lenses fixed. Small video cameras with usually 1/3 inch sensors would maintain the action in focus much better for a wedding than gh1´s unmanned ever could . It was just alittle helper ´cause it seems the idea , which is already scrapped because he didn´t get a cheap gh1, was unprepared. Better a couple of gopros !

who films with an gh1 unmanned? what - like an irobot lol

who films with an gh1 unmanned? what - like an irobot lol
Well me, well I would have, but filmed with 3 unmanned, with remote mic's and timers, the mic's and timers I have, the ability to get behind them I didn't.

See the thing here isn't that I was planning on this, it just happened. My first thought, sick as it may have been was to use my Canon is550 in video mode set up on a dinky tripod to at least record our vows so there would be something for us to reflect on our wedding with moving pictures, something is better than nothing. Then Panny sends this EPP deal whilst I'm looking at FLipHD's (gasp!) to possibly grab other 720p video from other angles and distances. I come to my senses about the flipHD's thankfully, and I'm handed this EPP deal, which 1 gh1 costs the dsame as 2 HD's and oh my I could keep it and actually start taking good pics. THEN I find out about the gh13 hack and start read ing more and more. Then I realize why get 1 camera, get a couple, so I order 2 more. Then I find out the hack doesn't work with these builds but hey, it's still much better video, for more than 12 minutes. I don't have the luxury of pausing my own wedding to run down zoom in change angles and start recording again, so I figured tripling my odds would be best. All the while having to justify why I'm spending this much money on 3 cameras to my soon to be money manager... who understood it was a smoking deal even if it's not hackable.

As I understood it the GH! has continuous autofocus, which I thought would be better than the stupid flip cams or my P&S Canon. I talked to Tempe camera about other options and was pointed to s Sony NEX-VG10, only SLIGHTLY out of my funds range for 1 'shoot'. All of my previous shooting has been with minidv's of action shots like H-Bomb Films, this is a step in a total other direction, I was going out on a limb trying this. I'm going to post up in another thread for input ideas on this. My biggest limitation is not being able to stop recording and start recording again with the Canon's so the GH fit the bill nicely. I'm even looking for GF1's at this point if it's possible to do the same, I don't like the form factor of the GF's but in a pinch it's still better than getting only the first 12 min of the ceremony from a t2i.

My camera just arrived today (lens had arrived on Friday) and guess what? The firmware version is 1.3!! HACKABLE. :D

If you are basing the firmware version on the "Version Disp" under setup, like I did, you will see version 1.3. It wasn't until I went through the procedure below was able to find out that I had version 1.34. You need to do the following:

Special notice! All this info is not intended for end users. You won't find here any useful info other than one that could damage your camera.

Temporary service mode:
1) Non-empty SD card must be installed
2) Check that single shot mode is selected.
3) Before trning on camera press:
a) DISPLAY+FILM MODE for G1 and GH1
b) DISPLAY+AE LOCK for GF1, G2, G10
4) Turn on power.
You must see ROM BACKUP option in settings menu.

Error code table in this mode:
1) Press left arrow + MENU/SET and hold them, plus press
a) FILM MODE for G1 and GH1
b) DISPLAY for GF1
c) AF/AE LOCK for G2 and G10

If you repeat error code table method one more time for'll be in CAMERA INFO screen.
Pressing Display will show you CAMERA INFO 2 screen.

lol

uhmm..I don't think so :)

but please try and tell us how it goes...

When I tried all I got was "no pics to display" when you attempt to get the firmware hack to install...that also tells you it does NOT work instead of the service mode walkaround...

Ahh, unfortunate. When I pulled up the firmware info, I had to do a double take as I was not expecting to see anything other than 1.34. But it looks like it's not the case. Also serial number starts with WE1A (Chinese model, 2011, Jan). Oh well. :(

But on the bright side... IT'S a GH1 for under $400 with a lens. :)

it's also amazing how this deal has destroyed gh1 and 14-42mm lens prices on ebay...

new 14-42mm have been unloaded for as low as $125 :shocked:

Really? Because ever since I got screwed on my cams from Panny I've been bidding on GH1's on Ebay, not a 1 I have bid on sold for less than $400 body only, and most with $25+ shipping.

Mine came a couple of days ago as well. Sweet because I had no confirmation from them or anything. Even my order status just said the lens.

I bought a 'used' GH1 US model (WE0A Jan 2010) body-only kit through ebay.es (spain) on Jan 8th for $510 and thought at the time I was getting a decent price, and that if I waited I'd miss the opportunity to have a hackable camera. Priority international mail cost another $60 and Spanish duties, taxes (20%) and handling resulted in the final cost being $760. I received it Feb 7th. Still don't have a lens, but I'm buying an OM-m43 adaptor so I can use my old Olympus lenses. Reading the manual until then. Won't hack it until I can display and compare both before and after hack video. The camera is essentially new: no finger prints or handling artifacts, had only 127 shutter actuations. Firmware version 0.01. I suspect it was excess stock from some dealer in Illinois. In any case, if I could find such a combo deal (gh1+42 lens) for $375 (without having to pay import costs) I'd probably buy another, even if it wasn't hackable. Great deal!

Really? Who leaves an unmanned camera on autofocus? Any time someone walks past the camera, the focus will hunt and maybe never revert back to what you wanted in focus. True pros will set their focus manually at the beginning and leave it there.
