35mm Film Out

Hey Punk,

You can get a decent 35mm print out of pretty much any prosumer camera - DVX and lesser cameras included. Don't let all the hype about the HVX/Varicam etc. confuse you (this IS a pro-Panasonic site, so don't think that you're not being sold anything). Back in school, we use to make 35mm film transfers off from the first 3ccd prosumer Pannys back in the day (I think it was a DYG something, a.k.a. the DVX of its time. It had a "frame" mode that mimicked the 24fps look. Oddly, nobody really cared for that feature except me....but I guess trends change).

I'm sure you're very ambitious about this 800k project. But realize that if you do find that money, there's no point in transferring digital to film. JUST SHOOT FILM.

I really want to shoot Varicam/HVX so I can get a decent 35mm print out of it; Plus Steadicam and VTR for the HVX to record to tape, plus a 35mm adapter for the HVX and Lenses to go with that.

The camera budget alone is over 100k.

...the consequences from too much dvxuser.com...

I don't want to have to deal with film.... You have to shoot, then go to the lab, wait for dailies... get dailies the next day, review them, edit the dailies (but then you still have to cut the actual film.), after you finish editing everything together in a NLE system from the dailies, you then have to cut all the actual film together.... then make prints from that.....

It just seems like way to many extra steps....

HD is simply

Shoot, Edit, EFILM for transfer.... No cutting dailies then cutting film.

Well, if nothing else your continued lack of any grasp on reality makes me smile. No offense but I somehow doubt you'd be able to actually handle a Varicam on your own (since I assume you also want to operate your own camera).

If you actually have 5k, see if you can somehow pull together a few extra grand and just buy an HVX200. Then take the time you need to learn how to make that produce the best image you can. I have a feeling that you'd get a much better result out of that for much cheaper then you ever would renting a Varicam.

Very true.... I've thought about that alot. I don't know how to use the varicam so in actuallity I need to add a week or two to the budget for the varicams to learn how to use them; Decently.
