35mm adaptor question

I want to get a shallower depth of field from my HPX-170 so I'm looking at a 35mm Adaptor. I don't really need the "film" look that the ground/spinngin/vibrating glass gives me. Can I just buy lenses for my 72mm thread and call it a day? Do they make those and do they work? It seems like it would be an easy, less expensive alternative to a Letus 35, but I've never heard anyone on this board mention additional lenses for the 170.

There are additional lenses for the 170, but none do what you are suggesting. There is a wide angle adapter, and a telephoto adapter, both of which extend the respective ends of the lenses. There are also macro lenses made by tiffen which can also help a cinematographer depending on their shooting scenario, but in short, no, if you want to get shallower DoF, you need a DoF adapter, like the Letus, RedRock, P+S Technik, Cinesomething or other... Oh the list goes on... You can even buy them used. Tons of info on these boards to help/confuse/inform you on the products.

And while people claim they love the film look from the ground glass, it doesn't matter whether they love it or not. It is a necessary element to project the 35mm lens onto a semi-transparant semi opaque surface that will enable the imager to capture an image projected onto a nearly 35mm size plain... GG just seems to be the best way to do it thus far, short of having a camera with a 35mm sized imager.

I used for a good time a sgblade (shoot35) and it worked very well. Balancing cost e results it's a good tool!
