35mm adapters still look better.

I am currently in pre production on a few things and am finding myself actually considering shooting them with a 35mm adapter combo. There is still something supremely pleasing about the look of sgpro footage.

This guy shares the same sentiment.

Does anybody else still feel this way?

Does anyone have any suggestions on any filter options I might be able to use to achieve a similar effect? I was thinking about a light gold fx or soft fx. I should also mention that I currently have access to RED MX with Cooke glass and pretty much every DSLR that shoots video. Yet here I am.

Someone joked in a thread about a 35mm adapter on the F-3 but I would seriously put one on a af-100 with a relay lens if I could. That sounds crazy I know. It's been a long day.

Anyway just wanted to see if I am the only one.

All I can say is this. I scored two films from a set of SCAD students where the first film was done with an HVX200 with the sgpro and some nice lenses and the second was a Red One M. Same crew. The HVX200 footage looked great, but the Red One footage looked absolutely fantastic. I was very taken by the quality of the Red One shot and thought it was vastly superior.

I had the ProRes files of the final grade of both and it was no question to me.

Now, that HVX200 with the SG-Pro compared to my 7D, I think the HVX had a better overall look WHEN the lighting was enough for it. Given the amount of needed light the HVX needed even without the 35mm adapter, we switched to the 7Ds, and now that my AF100 is almost here, we are switching to that next.

Adam,

I spent close to six years making 3 adapters and using them in several production work. I'd say, they had a look but its time to move on.
Recently I have edited a few old films in our studio, and while there are great, we just don't want to go there anymore just because they're there.

Just this morning, I took out my 35 adapter and put it together. I looked at it and assessed the time to get it right, plus the weight, plus the limitation in speed etc. -I sighed deeply and poignantly placed it back in storage.
I'd rather take the moire and aliasing of DSLRs than go back to an adapter setup. I currently use a 7D, Now I'm waiting to pull the trigger on a GH2.

Mind dropping some names? :)

The two short films were a music video using the HVX/SGpro combo (and I say I scored it because I wrote the song!) and a short film called 'Bout' that used the Red One - M. The director was Mike Chrisco on both, and the camera operator was Swapnil Kumar. If I recall correctly (has been awhile!!)
