35mm adapter on the Red One

Any speculation as to when those two models will be out and how much it will cost?

There are two lines as mentioned by other users in this post, EPIC and SCARLET. Within those lines, there are numerous models. SCARLET offers a 2/3" 8X fixed zoom lens (called the SCARLET fixed), a 2/3" interchangeable lens system (called SCARLET cinema), a super 35mm sensor model (called SCARLET S35) and a full framed 35mm model (called SCARLET FF35). The prices listed on REDuser say $4750 for the SCARLET fixed and that includes batteries, media, a side CF module, and some other accessories I think. It's designed to be usable right out of the box. The SCARLET cinema's price is listed at $2750 for the brain only. With batteries, media, modules, accesories, and a set of primes (RED is even offering RED miniprimes designed specifically for the sensor in the SCARLET cinema) you are looking at $10-11,000. Confirmed prices and lenses for the S35 and FF35 models are not listed on the website as of yet. EPIC models are WAY out of your price range, so they're not even worth talking about.

I've been wanting to get RED One for a long time but when SCARLET and EPIC were announced I took an immediate interest. Now I can't even wait for RED day to come so I can get out to the convention center and see the cams in action because I'm so ready to buy one. Seriously though, I'm having a heart attack deciding between the SCARLET fixed and the SCARLET cinema. The cinematographer in me demands the ability to choose my own primes, especially since the talk on the REDuser forums is that super 16mm lenses will fit the 2/3" sensor perfectly. But, I don't have that kind of money at the moment and it'd take a great deal of saving...meanwhile, that $4750 price tag is looking mighty good but I can't stand not being able to take the lenses off my cameras. And using a 35mm adapter on a RED seems counter-intuitive to me.

It's not worth it to buy a RED One now, because you wouldn't be able to trade it in at value towards an RED Epic. So, if you buy a Red One now, you're stuck without until you sell it (and you still won't get the same amount you'd get from RED).

It certainly looks exciting by looking at PDF flyer but I hate to be tester. One more thing, when Red said "Brain only", is that mean just the body and nothing else?

Okay.....you are so wrong. Let me set some things straight.

RED one is far from being worthless. It will remain in use for years to come.

First of all RED is allowing you to TRADE-IN your used RED one at FULL purchase price! That's $17,500 towards any new RED camera.

try that at your local car dealership!

Second option, for about $5500.00 you can send in your Red One to get the new 5k sensor (MX). Thus giving you the same image quality as the new epic.

Unless you need the smaller body size or new features of the new RED's than a upgraded red one will do just fine.

For this reason you will see used Red one's very rare for sale and even used should command high dollar amounts. Since you can just trade it in at full price, why would you sell cheaper? Most people will upgrade or trade-in.

Keep in mind, if you buy second hand. It costs $1500 to transfer ownership to the new owner. This allows you many upgrade and service benefits. Not to mention keeps you from buying a stolen camera that will not be supported. It would suck to get stuck with a stolen camera.

I just saw the new scarlet and epic line of camera at a vip RED presentation on Saturday here in LA. The new sensor is AMAZING. They showed a shot on a 50' screen with a 4k sony projector of leonardo decaprio lit by a single match as the key light!!! Shot at 1280iso !!! Virtually NO Noise!!! The new sensor is truly amazing. The fact that you can have that in your red one is great...

The other new camera (epic&scarlet) look great and I can't wait to start shooting with them. I have a feeling that I will still be shooting on the red one for a long time.

Here is my credentials for getting into the presentation and screening just a few days ago. I was truly impressed.

I shoot RED with my nikon lenses I use on my redrock all the time. Nikon glass is beautiful IMHO. The only issue is pulling focus on them is a biatch.

Here's my rig with nikon on it....

and yes, to adress the OP question. A DOF adaptor on a Red one is pointless. The Nikon lens mount that I use I bought from RED. around $500. I also know they make canon mounts too.

The RED zoom 15-50 $6500 sucks ass. My nikkors are much better. The new red primes are much, much better and worth the money. For the record their original zooms are not worth the money at all......

Pedro, thanks so much for the response. That gives me hope that if I do buy a Red someday, I can use my Nikkor lenses with the $500 lens mount instead of buying an adapter than a mount which will run in about 4 to 8 grand at the minimum. Do you have a side pic of your rig showing how the Nikkor lens is mounting to the Red?

Do you mind telling me what your rig (showing in picture above) cost?

Thanks!

To tack onto BMW, there are other flaws in this logic. If buying a RED One allows you to get work NOW, then waiting til who knows when for Epic causes you to lose money.

I work alot with 3D, one of the companies I work closely with owns a few of them and they let me use it on weekends and when they not shooting......lucky me, I know.....

When I borrow it I use my nikkors lenses. Driving around with a expensive camera is one thing but a box of PL lenses worth $100k plus is just not something I wanna do. Besides my nikons kick ass.

Sorry, don't have a better pic of the rig with the nikons on it. I'll try to get some when I start shooting with it again after the job on on now finishes....

was shooting some timelapses, not the best angle but you can see the end of the nikon(rabit ears) and the mount.

How much? lets see.... the price is misleading as they charge you for every little piece.

body$17,500
battery $450 each
charger $550
battery plate $500
top handle $150
rail handles $250 each x2
7" LCD $2500
nikon mount $500
bottom plate $600
shoulder dovetail $550
carbon rods $$200 each pair
top mount x 2 #150
universal mount$250

misc cables $$$$$

media..
CF cards $495 each (16GB around 8mins of 4k)
CF module $500

or drive is $900 or SS Drive is $4500

Not to mention filters, matte box, follow focus, tripod etc....etc....

So easy $25k +

Then lenses are usually easily many time the price of the camera. A single lens can cost $50k. This is why I use nikons when I'm shooting my little projects.

You need bank if you wanna play this game, or just rent it all. Getting cheaper every day to rent.

Wow. My current rig is about 25 pounds and I thought that is heavy. Apparently I don't know what heavy means.
