35mm Adapter for HMC?

I have both a HMC150 /SGblade rig and a GH1 DSLR that I use together. I have 10 nikon primes I use for both and I rarely use the kit lens.

GH1
Better low light.
Lighter for steadicam or handheld
Quicker rig setup.
Manual white balance

HMC with adapter
Way more control everything is right at your fingers, no menus needed
HDMI HD Monitor output
Real time Waveform monitoring
Real time Zebras
Real time Vector scope
Audio monitoring
Phantom power

The 7D wasnt an option for me because it doesn't have a moveable LCD so it wasnt suited to steadicam operation.

I prefer the HMC150 blade rig much more to the GH1; with my HMC rig I can have an external SmallHD.com monitor setup on the rails. That way I have the HMC LCD waveform monitor running next to the big external showing the shot; I have audio/light/focus monitoring all in the same place. Shooting this way is very reassuring.

I have tried steadicam shooting the HMC150 without the flip on the blade and while it was possible I was very apprehensive doing it.

The GH1 rig is very light and I can whip it around in way I could not with the HMC rig although there's not a ton of space on the rails to hang much with a mattebox and follow focus set up, it gets really cramped.

So why not just hook up the 7D to that then... lol Thats what im doing.

How exactly is any canon dslr suited for steadicam? regardless monitoring... I guess if you don't need to focus or change any settings ever your good...

well seeing as a cam that comes with only a 7 " monitor on a steadicam that costs 24,264.95 and they use it and it works. I dont see why a 9' hd monitor wont work wonders.

Yea we wont be follow focusing while on the glidecam, just have a fixed focal length.

Danny,
I've used a Brevis and a Letus. I bought a Letus.

I know the Brevis folks are on here... but man did I have a bad experience with their adapter. Maybe things have changed. But I can tell you right now, my Letus Extreme has done wonders. I've also been able to rent it out at a solid rate and make some buck back.

Check out something my buddy shot with my Letus/HMC rig (the movie is kind of messed up, but it looks awesome)

while this is true, you should definitely get the manual iris controls on your Nikon primes... last weekend, we were forced to use auto-iris lenses for some shots, and we jerryrigged them with tape to be completely open. then we stopped down on the camera. not ideal but it worked!
