35mm adapter footage [] post-production "flip" in Avid

Most of these 35mm adapters create a horizontal-vertical image inversion when recorded. So, in post, the image must be corrected to look normal. Within Avid, what is the best way to do this?

Assume I have 150 (720PN) clips that were all recorded "flipped." Is there a way to re-write all those associated MXF media files so they remain as DVCProHD? In other words, I want to correct the associated MXF media files without having them undergo any further compression.

Within Avid there's a "flip-flop" effect that will achieve this.

Beyond that I don't have a good answer for you.

Thanks for the tip. That's just basically an effect you would add on to an additional video track on the timeline, right?

No way to alter the original media files so as no "effect" is needed?

There is no way to affect the source media from file based imports. I wouldn't worry too much about the decompress/recompress - Assuming you will be doing a color correction or something to that effect, there will be a render at some point.

Drop all original clips into a sequence. This is your 'Rush' sequence which contains all your clips. Go into segment mode and shift-click on all clips, or drag a selection box around the clips. Doubleclick the Flipflop effect( don't drag&drop). The effect is applied to all clips.

Now drag&drop the Rush-sequence into the source monitor, and create a new edit sequence.

Now you can view the clips the right side up in source&record window.

Another idea: create the "rush" sequence per eLeventy, create a second video track, and drop your flipflop effect onto the empty space of the new video track.
