After reading a lot about the adapters i think the options are between the brevis and the letus extreme. Brevis i read is lighter (not needing rails) yet more expensive.

Knowing how wedding videography works, which one would you recommend?

Thanks!

im using a dvx 100b currently. Within a year or so i want to upgrade to an hvx most likely, so i want something i can grow into and use when i switch to HD.

I...would not use a 35mm adapter for wedding unless it's a B camera. The difficulties in focusing on the fly meant that unless you have a really good AC 50-60% of your footage is going to end up soft and unusable. The light loss will also just kill you in most cases.

ive seen a few guys using the brevis at weddings. I probably wont use it for a lot of the main stuff where im on the fly, but when i have some down time to capture some of the details of the wedding. and people where i can set up and focus... would be awesome. what do you think though? letus claims to have least light loss.

If it's an all outdoor wedding, it might be doable, assuming you're good at pulling your own focus. Mostly that just means time and practice (and a reliable monitor; the DVX's is fine for me). Just remember, the bride isn't going to care one bit about the cool cinematic shallow DOF if certain key moments are just plain out of focus. I agree with Huy, this is too risky unless you've got at least one other camera to back you up.

If it's an indoor wedding, you can pretty much forget it, unless you have access to the location beforehand and can do some tests.

As a wedding videographer, I would say don't go there unless its on a B camera with a second operator.

It may look stunning but can you afford to have out of focus shots of the ceremony? No of course not. If it was being used by the second cameraman for pickup shots and the more artisic side, then go for it. But don't rely on it.

Go for the Letus EX or the Letus Ultimate. They are high quality and dependable.

I posted an outdoor wedding clip in the HVX Clips section where the Letus EX was used on the primary cam:

i think the still motion guys (www.still-motion.ca) use the brevis 35. dennis has some of their footage on the cinevate site. they have some really nice work. that's the direction i'm going to go when i unload a few items and put together some scratch to kit out my hvx.

fyi i will be using this for weddings as well as shorts.

Patrick Moreau and the stillmotion.ca crew do indeed use our equipment, as does Jason Magbanua. Both were on EventDV's "Top 25 Shooters of 2008" list. Patrick was one of our first customers 2 years ago and their crew has expanded to up to 4 cameras per shoot, including Amina and John doing some amazing still photo work. This crew has been getting popular to the point where they're being flown literally around the world to shoot various events. Light efficiency, flexibility and reliability is always an issue for this type of work so consequently they've been big fans of the adapter.

This is some of stillmotion's latest work done in Vancouver using the EX1, our CFXL and considerable talent from the crew :-) http://vimeo.com/1542906
