35 adapters and Matteboxes

Hello.

I know that the issue of 35mm adapters has been done to death on these forums... and I have even read the thread regarding matte boxes and them... but I still have a few questions.

First off, I'm debating back and forth between the Micro35 and Letus35 Flip Enhanced. The Letus35 one claims not to need any kind of rod support because it is so light, which worries me to some degree, but the image is also right side up in the viewfinder, and it's cheaper! Does this worry anyone, as the way I understood it, the rods were needed to keep the image exactly lined up?

Anyway, both allow for a Canon FD mount, and since I have Canon FD lenses, that's what I plan to use. So my main question is do they make matte boxes (preferably with some sort of French Flag) that will fit on the DVX 100A camera with one of these 35mm adapters and a Canon FD lens? I've heard some will fit on the rod support, which makes the Micro35 appealing, but is this true? Could anyone show me any specific products that will fit either one of these adapters?

Thank you so much!

Yes it does... you can use cavision rods.. and a mattbox that attaches to those rods.. the matte box will not attach to the lense just the MB so should work.

Wow, thanks a lot. I looked those up, and that seems to be great. My only question is when using the 35 Adapter, a lens, and this matte box, is there enough room on the rod system? In other words, will using a longer lens, like a telephoto one for example, completely negate having this matte box on the end because the lens is longer then the matte box can reach? Also, does anyone know if there a matte box that fits the type of rod system that comes with the M2?

Hmm Im not sure. I hope someone else chimes in, I want to go this way but waiting for a positive comment from someone on this board who has a letus flip and did same. Of course I want seomthing to work with DVX without adapter as well rather than buy two... also something flexible enough that is has minimum upgrade when I change cameras.

EDIT Check out scharky's thread he has his working well.

More stoppage on the lens (bigger f-stop number), the better your depth of field will be. However, more depth of field results in a greater loss of light.

What to do, what to do....

Swiperstopswiping, what do you mean by "better" DOF? Increasing the F-stop will only make the DOF deeper (although preferable in some situations), but it is rarely the better thing to do. It also, as you said, introduces more and more light loss. :)

Deeper DOF = More in focus.
Shallower DOF (Less DOF) = Less in focus. :)

does anyone know what lense & adapter is good for my dvx100a to get a good DOF?

YOu're going to want to look around a bit more. Spend some time also in the OFF TOPIC forum and under the DIY section.

Weeks of reading and it appears all in all it depends on personal taste. There are lot of adapters out there and they're all a bit different.

i have a dvx with a my35 which is about the same length as the standard letus, a 50mm canon lens, follow focus, and mattebox and it all just barely fits on the cavision rods with maybe a half inch of slack left over. any longer lens or adapter would require longer rods. however, once you have the rod system, getting longer rods is easy and fairly cheap. the hardware is the expensive part of it.
