30p Workflow in Final Cut Pro 7

Hey Guys,

I shot footage with 2 cameras both shooting 30p. I captured it into Final Cut Express HD and the footage looks very jagged. I'm guessing FCE doesn't support 30p. I'm gonna try again in Final Cut Pro 7 this time. What's the best way to capture the 30p footage in FCP7 so it looks good? Is there any special settings I'm missing? By the way, we shot with an HVX and a DVX100B both at 30p SD.

Of course FCE supports 30fps. It's a standard NTSC format.

You need to provide more information. What are your computer specs? How did you import your footage? What are your sequence settings?

I know FCE supports 30fps but there's no setting for progressive. I captured it at DV/DVC PRO NTSC setting that I always do because there was no progressive setting. I am running FCE on a Mac PowerBook G4 with a 1.67 GHZ processor. I have Tiger.

I set the Field Dominance to "none" in the File List and it plays fine in the Viewer but not in the canvas. Somebody had told me to set the sequence settings for field dominance to "none" also and I tried but there's no option for that.

Keep in mind that 30P is actually recorded at 29.97, so it's pretty much (as has been said) standard NTSC video. As you have done, set your field dominance to "none" and you'll be fine.

FCE is much more limited than FCP as far as frame rates and formats, but since we're talking about 29.97 you've got nothing to worry about.
