30p to 60p to 24p conversion example

Is everyone on the moonshine today !?

I better get drinking so I can keep up with this thread :costumed-smiley-047:costumed-smiley-047:Drogar-Dolar(DBG):

30p to 24p straight

I can see more artifacting if you step frame by frame but that's only frame by frame so is it worth it? Probably not! Would like to try a good 60P convert like the MCR_FRC and see what happens.

hyalinejim over at the 5d forums did this test

http://rapidshare.com/files/26299822...24_TWIXTOR.mov -- Twixtor 30p to 24p. Took Five minutes and you can download the results there. There is definitely much more artifacting going on, but is it a deal breaker @ a five minute conversion? Prolly not for an average web video. Anyone know if you can increase Twixtor performance at the expense of a longer render?

If you speed 24p up by 125% it will be 30p footage.

How can you speed something up and keep it at the same speed - at the same time ?

No no, if you speed up 24p footage by 125% on a 24p timeline, it will still be 24p... but what are the motions of the frames that arent discarded?

What happens if one just slows down the 30p footage by 80% and render that out as 24p.

Then reload that exported footage back in After Effects, speed that up by 125%, and keep it as 24p?

You have to conform the 30p to 24p so that it becomes slowmo and is 23.98, then speed it back up in Compressor. That's DenverK's method over at Cinema5D and it works decently for stuff that's not moving quickly.

Jack Daniel Stanley has a 60p to 24p conversion tutorial up for the GH-1 and it looks great to my eyes. he does some car footage which looks like a good tell-tale if it's working or not.

it's uploading. Anyway, you already have done this so don't waste your time downloading. Thanks for the advice.

1080/60p is not a broadcast standard (yet) and no professional cameras support it. There are a couple of little Sanyo microcams that do it, but in general no, nothing from Sony, Panasonic, JVC or Canon supports 1080/60p.

I've tried doing something similar but the effect, in the end, is the same as dropping 30p into a 24p timeline.

I tried interpreting the 30p footage as 23.976 fps, dropping that into the 24p timeline, and i get very fluid, slightly slowed footage. And then if I apply a speed change to bring that footage back to real time, then every 4th frame is still missing.

But we're not speaking about post solutions? If we go to 720p, it is half resolution...

You could do 1080/60P theoretically. But, you'd have to find a program that even did a proper 30 to 60 in general. Again, that MSU_FRC plug-in looked like it did wonders for creating a fluid, factual 60P but I have no idea how to work it. =(

I saw Shake conversion, it does the same as Twixtor in that it gets really weird when you have complex detail. There's a clip of a female walking through sand and her feet and the sand swirl and blend together, like twisted oil paint.

If it's gonna do all of that, I'll settle for the in-between. But it's good to have as many options as possible.

Would be even better to just have 24p... the trade-off in size/weight of the RED is starting to look appealing again...

Where? What''s best? Twixtor or the other method?

I honestly don't think any method is the best. They all have something wrong with them.

Shake Takes forever
Twixtor gets lazy and artifacting goes crazy but it's fast
AE is a hit/miss and is somewhere in between those two.

The best method: 24p cam or a native 60p, that seems to go really well with 24p Conversions or even just drag and drops.

Any artifacts conforming to 24p in cinema tools with fast action?

I'm really curious about this glue tools plugin canon have bought.

Does Gluetools have anything to do with frame rate conversions of the type we're trying to do? Someone else brought Glue Tools up but I looked for info on it, the only time I've used Gluetools is for Phantom Footage.

Cinema Tools conforming, I didn't see ANY artifacts when doing a slow down. Same for A.E interpret @ 23.98. Looked smooth.

apparently it does 30-24p, there was some talk about it @ cinema5D.

sounds like like a cinema tools overcrank might be a good workaround sure not everybody wants to slow down their action but it's that, artifacts, or use a red or ccd cam for those shots for now.
